O’s claim IF Hanser Alberto from Yankees; DFA Susac

Susac could pass through waivers and end up in AAA.  If not, we will need to sign at least one more catcher for depth.

Still some names out there. How much do you think they will need to be offered to sign? Stephen Vogt or Devan Mesoraco could be cheap reclamation projects that could be shipped out at the deadline if they perform.  Or we could take the Drew Butera/Chris Stewart type route, as they could add AAA guidance and emergency depth.  Or we could go straight up Defense and sign Martin Maldonado quarterback the field with his Gold Glove D.

Weiters and Caleb are always out there too....

Looks like we’re adressing our IF depth through waivers and Rule 5 draft. Ruiz, Martin, Jackson, Hansel. We still need at least 2 OF so we aren’t in a bind and have to start players’ service clocks.

I don't think it has anything to do with service clocks.

I don't think the O's had anyone internally that they thought could do the job.

We should be ok with Mullins, Stewart, Rickard, Santander, Brugman, Peterson and Li'l Yaz until Hays and Diaz are ready to come up. We won't score many runs, but we shouldn't need to sign free agent placeholders who actually cost money.

Didn't we just sign a catcher to minor league deal?   Anyway I didn't realize Susac was still on the 40 man.  Our 40 man still has a lot of players to clear out.

They don't need anyone for depth at this point.

This is an excerpt from the thread about signing Carlos Perez:

"I wonder if this eliminates them from attempting to re-sign Caleb?

I'm also going to work with the assumption that Susac doesn't make it out of Spring Training.

Perhaps the depth chart will look a bit like this:

Baltimore: Perez/Wynns (split)

Norfolk: Sisco/Brockmeyer (Sisco starts, Brockmeyer is depth)

Bowie: Cervenka/Fajardo (Cervenka starts, but can move up quickly)

But if they get Caleb back...

Baltimore: Joseph/Wynns

Norfolk: Sisco/Perez

Bowie: Cervenka/Brockmeyer

Only putting Sisco in Norfolk so he can get more at bats and playing time instead of working in a split role. The only thing that I could see changing that is either injury, or they carry 3 catchers and have Sisco DH'ing on days he doesn't catch, with Cervenka in Norfolk."

Now, if they do add someone like a Maldonado, Vogt, ect, replace "Joseph" with their name. But again, not entirely needed.

You mean no other team wanted him? I'm shocked I tell you, shocked!

The only question is, if he survives through the camp. They have a lot of options in the minors now.

No other team wanted to give him a 40 man spot. Much like Caleb Joseph. No team.

Our catching depth is pretty thin. We need a bunch of Catchers for ST.  I don’t see anyone stealing ABs from him in AAA.
