Job for an Oriole general assignment reporter with the Baltimore Sun

Looking for an innovative individual who can develop sauces. Sauces are always important and need to know what to cover and spread. Have to have a nice balance.

The Baltimore Sun is seeking an innovative, digitally minded news hound to join its coverage team, primarily as a member of the Orioles beat. The right reporter knows how to unearth – and tell – the stories you can’t find anywhere else. The Sun is seeking someone who knows how to develop sourcing and use all tools available to connect with its audience; someone who can write the long-form story and the conversational quick hit; someone with strong knowledge of all sports, especially Major League Baseball, and can deliver insightful content; and someone who is comfortable with all forms of storytelling — from writing to shooting video to appearing on camera. He or she should be ahead of the news, be an active participant in online communities, be comfortable breaking out of traditional story forms and be able to engage with audiences directly online and on camera.

Probably not much. Experienced people took buyouts and some just left.

In an effort to stave off future job cuts, Tribune Publishing, the parent company of The Sun, Chicago Tribune and seven other newspapers, offered company-wide buyout offers today in a memo sent to managers.

The offer applies to full-time non-union employees with 10 years of service or more, and will be extended to union employees of the same tenure on Nov. 16, Maya A. Bordeaux, senior vice president of human resources, wrote in the memo. Workers will be notified on Nov. 28 if their “application is approved.”

“We hope to meet our financial targets through this buyout plan; however, if we don’t we may need to explore further workforce reductions,” she wrote.

I think meeting financial targets by buying out people when you already have a very thin staff doesn't seem the way to go.
