Quotes for days.

Quote

When Bauer meets a potential romantic partner, he outlines for her the parameters of any possible relationship on their very first date. “I have three rules,” he says. “One: no feelings. As soon as I sense you’re developing feelings, I’m going to cut it off, because I’m not interested in a relationship and I’m emotionally unavailable. Two: no social media posts about me while we’re together, because private life stays private. Three: I sleep with other people. I’m going to continue to sleep with other people. If you’re not O.K. with that, we won’t sleep together, and that’s perfectly fine. We can just be perfectly polite platonic friends.”

Great story - a stupendous weirdo, but doing a fine job being his own proof of concept.

I imagine to guys like Sig he is a fascinating specimen, and all those someone's wanting to be the next Trevor Bauer will be getting more structured institutional support from clubs.

If he has 2-3 more good years, I hope we'll be ready for our turn at one of those 1/$30's.  Sounds like the Astros have 2021 dibs though.

He's probably got the Cy Young in the clubhouse if his teammates can clinch before Sunday, but could he lose it if his number is called on 3 days rest again Sunday, and he scuffles with a playoff berth on the line?

Except that Boddy's a team employee now, would have said he and Boddy have to be over the moon on the eve of his FA?

Like Rendon/Strasburg last year, there's a good bit extra he can earn with a hot month, maybe enough for him to flirt with the 1-year record if he stars and sticks by that principle.

If I were a team and he was willing to sign a long term deal I'd be worried he'd stop using the illegal substances he's using to increase his spin rate.

Educated guess or you have read reports of suspicions elsewhere?  One thing I know about Bauer is his Twitter is entertaining  as hell.

He stated that if he used a substance he could increase his spin rate by 400.

His spin rate has increased by 400 (451) this season.

He also had a random start a few years ago in which his spin rate was 400 higher than what in any other start that year.

If you've got another theory I'd love to hear it.

Another theory like grassy knolls and second shooters?  ?

Nah,  really just was wondering and figured you had substance behind your comment.

Hopefully John means isn’t relying on pine tar too!

This is spin not velocity.

I however am fine with them using whatever as long as they don't get caught.  And since teams very rarely target pitchers for using it...

And from what I’ve heard recently Means spin rate is up as well as well as his velocity.  And I understood that was the point.

Really was just kidding about means.  He is an Oriole so he can do no wrong!   At least until he isn’t any more.  ?

    • Well said! Like you, I go back to about 1970 and the # of posts someone has is irrelevant to me. The fact that so many on here think there you know what don't stink keeps me, and I'm sure others from joining in more. I know what I know about this team and I don't feel the need to prove myself. And btw the closest that I've ever lived to Baltimore is the very most western part of Illinois.
    • To me none of that matters. Baker was throwing the ball well.  Had spin and velocity.  Go with that. Again, goes to show how many managers don't go by feel anymore and instead just go by what the book says.
    • You will get used to that around here.  The people saying you can't say anything about the Os unless you have played baseball for 20 years or been an Os fan for 50 years.   Bottom line is Baker, as mediocre as he is, was actually throwing the ball pretty well.  His pitches has spin and velocity and he had just struck out his last batter. To take him out for a complete and utter scrub?  And I say scrub in the best way possible?  Was ridiculous. Hyde was playing text book/by the book baseball instead of actually MANAGING BASEBALL by instinct and feels. And he got burned for it.  And it has not been the first time.
    • Brecht has TOR upside.  We’re good at finding #3-#5 types just in developing them, but we need that TOR arm upside and develop.
    • I thought Baker had a better chance of getting a strikeout. Even though he created that mess it looked like he could have worked out of it.  Generally not in favor of bringing in guys for bases loaded situations unless they’re absolute nails and have an extremely high K rate.  Akin’s K rate is higher this year but I still don’t believe he was the better option than Baker.
    • We’ve been picking really athletic types when not picking high in rd 1. Position player wise.   2023 - EBJ, Horvath, Josenberger, Cunningham, Etzel Not that are prior picks haven’t been athletic, if you know what I’m trying to say. We don’t take plodders as position players.
