I think they belive not sliding "feet first" would help with the issues like "cleats stuck in the ground" or "jamming into a base" or "spiking the guy."

No real "win win" here.

This is why you do the data study, not just guess which is better.

Hays is proven to be quite injury susceptible.

Had some problems in his first year with us in Abderdeen and of course last year.  Hoping these things are isolated incidents and we don't have an AJ Pollock situation on our hands.

Or, Jeffrey Hammonds, or Nolan Reimold...

That could work.

I’ve had the idea about using a flat base similar to home plate. It might have to use a different material, then there is no way for the runner to get a finger caught on the base when sliding.

You wouldn’t be able to hold onto the base when   sliding, but I think it would decrease injury risk.

I haven’t put much thought into this, I’m sure there is a flaw in my idea.

If he had singed a deal he'd be in big league camp and he wouldn't have been hurt.

I'm sure all those team suddenly signing guys to extensions are just being stupid.

Not at all. Are they signing multiple injury guys?

Or you could look at the value of stolen bases and decide not to.

Yeah, really. Since success rates at best are marginally worth it anyway.

Speed is one of our very few weapons this year tho...

It is amazing how seemingly some players have just injury after injury whether it is the ones you mentioned...then you have individuals like Cal or Adam who had bodies seemingly resistant to major injury...  Hopefully Austin will be OK.
