2019 5th round pick (138): Darell Hernaiz -SS - Americas High School (TX)

Former @AmericasBlazers SS Darell Hernaiz (@Darellbaseball2) tells me he will sign with the Baltimore Orioles.  

 

The 5th Round Draft Pick and Texas Tech signee is already in Baltimore and will have to undergo physicals before signing with the Orioles.

A fine first minor league season from Hernaiz, the 17-year old 5th round SS/2B.  .263/.371/.364/.734 in 119 Plate Appearances. He had 2 HR and was 5/5 in SB. 

I just saw this brief scouting report from Perfect Game... prior to the draft and perhaps even prior to his senior season..

Darell Hernaiz is a 2019 SS/2B with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from El Paso, TX who attends Americas HS. Slender young athletic build, lots of room to get stronger. Second base tools on defense, has quick feet and stays balanced well, has smooth actions and funnels well, soft hands, arm strength is presently short unless moving through the ball. Right handed hitter, hits from an even stance with a deep hand load, loose swing with a mid field to opposite field approach, steers the barrel to the ball, high contact swing, should continue to improve as he gets stronger. 

He's now listed at 6'1-170 on Baseball Reference.
