Roy Firestone Series (vs. ANGELS, 7/27)

Don't agree with the idea of walking Trout every time he comes up to the plate. Essentially punishing players for being too good like that is kinda bush IMO and it's not entertaining at all or even good for the game. He was retired seven times this series and four were strikeouts. Some were even with guys on base and in scoring position. He's not invincible and he's not hitting 1.000. Making good pitches can get him out just like anyone else. Maybe in the playoffs, I'd consider it more strongly because there's a lot more on the line in those games. Not in July by one of the worst teams in baseball with nothing on the line indefinitely.

I agree, the one guy I would make an exception though, is Bonds in his late 30 "steroid prime" years.

Palmer was quite animated about the lazy reach by Severino to advance the runner to 2B. Think he felt it threw Brooks out of rhythm on the next guy he walked.

Of course, he’s right. Severino has been mostly good this year, but he looked awful trying to backhand that ball instead of blocking it.

Yes, well, part of being the worst team in baseball is continuing to insist on doing things out of pride that your talent can’t do.   If we could consistently make good pitches to good hitters, we probably wouldn’t be the worst team, now would we?

What are we the Tigers now?

Using that logic, we'd be walking half the league including Ohtani who's also pretty good. Trout was just retired with a runner in scoring position, too. I like that we don't back down to hitters in that way even Trout.
