If only Elias hadn't traded the 11th best player in baseball (Bundy) for next to nothing

Obviously the O's should have signed him to a 10 year contract.  Could have had a discount.

#1 trait you look for in a general manager is the ability to sign the players who'll be really good when it's not expected, and not sign the guys who'll fall off a cliff unexpectedly.  Even if that "skill" is about the same as a million monkeys with a computer eventually typing out Hamlet.

Maybe a little, but over the last 3-4 years the Big A isn't that far behind OPACY in home run rates.  A couple years there were actually more hit there than here, including so far this year.

But the Big A, dont play in the AL East, and Bundy would not be the first pitcher to do better with a change of scenery and movement out of the AL East.

I'm not making a major point here, I'm just pointing out a coincidence/circumstance that happens to involve a player from a recent Orioles trade ........

Braves manager Brian Snitker tried to push Tommy Milone through 5 innings to qualify for the) W )in their 29-9 victory over the Marlins last night. Milone could only manage to go 3.33 frames, ceding 8 earned runs in the process.

Milone pitched for the Braves, who are managed by Brian Snitker.

I know.

That is what I posted in the first place, then I switched it to Mattingly and the Marlins, and then back to Snitker and the Braves again ....... I think I'll keep it this way, now.

Sometimes in life, I have observed that there are things that do not work out good, for whatever reason, no matter how much time one puts in to studying, analyzing it, etc.  I am writing off this Bundy thing as one of those times.  However, over the very long haul,

things come closer to evening up, so if we have not used our evening up issue, we are due for something good to happen.

The Eddie Rommel game just looks like inexplicable nonsense to a modern eye.  He relieved Lew Krausse in the 2nd inning after Krausse had allowed three runs.  He then pitched 17 innings, allowing 29 hits and 14 runs, picking up the win in relief.  He faced 87 batters, and threw an estimated 224 pitches.  In relief.

Our old friend Russ Ortiz of the '06 Orioles makes the list from his time in San Francisco.  The only pitcher from the past 40 years.

    • We tried to get Cease from them at the deadline, and then in the offseason. Cease was much less complicated because he didn’t have innings issues and hadn’t been a reliever.  Now we have to make a trade with them with the complications of Crochet and expect not to trade one of Basallo, Mayo, and Holliday, plus.  Yeah, that ain’t happening. Stick to the rentals of Scherzer and Kikuchi. I know it’s taboo to say this, but once you get passed those two SP, who really is that much better than Suarez?  Suarez has only given up 3 HR all year and has a 2.50 ERA.
    • Not really. What SP are you taking off for him?   It seems like our guys reached some theoretical milestones of being an all star but they did a 2-3 deep at each position. Picked the players based solely on that position and not versus the entire position group. For Ex. It was DH v DH. 2B v 2B. COF v COF.  The only gripes are possibly, Westburg vs Peredes but the one player from each team rule.  Santander vs OF but they need guys that can play CF.  Kimbrel vs Holmes maybe here but Kimbrel getting demoted and not spreading out his rough outings affected perception.  Do they still do the last player in vote?  If so, Santa and Westburg could be on the ballot?
    • Well the NFL Rams franchise deserves some mention as they started in Cleveland in 1937, moved to LA in 1946, moved to St. Louis in 1995 and back to LA in 2016.  Fascinating that in each stop they have won a season’s ultimate prize (either NFL championship or Super Bowl)! To add some extra spice to the Rams franchise history they were involved with the Baltimore Colts in what was the largest trade of all time as described here. https://www.nfl.com/news/sidelines/digging-into-the-colts-and-rams-1972-franchise-swap-was-the-greatest-biggest-tra
    • I still say crochet isn’t traded. It makes sense for Chicago to trade him but they could still get a ton for him in the offseason or at the deadline next year if things go right. I do not feel his value is at its peak right now BUT his value does risk to take a huge drop if they don’t trade him. It’s not an easy spot to be in for anyone involved in this decision.
    • I don’t think many/any want or are eager to get rid of any of our very talented young players/prospects. However, I for one, am even less eager to see us roll with the pitching staff as is. The question/dilemma is what is the right amount of talent to acquire this year (and potentially beyond given the state of the rotation) to give us the best shot possible to be successful in October? And how to we balance that against our future potential/possibilities that some of the young players provide. It’s a very precarious position that Elias is in. We all hope that he makes great decisions that lead to both success now and in the future. But I get where you are coming from Kjerstad seems to have an elite power tool as the ball seems to really carry off of his bat.
    • I’m disappointed more O’s didn’t get in, but it’s hardly the biggest travesty in all star history, so, shrug. Jim Palmer mentioned on the broadcast that he didn’t make the All Star team two of the three times he won the Cy Young.
