A very bizarre choice. Why not Grayson Rodriguez?  Diplan isn’t even a prospect. So strange.

Perhaps because Rodriguez pitched in it previously (I think)?   But don’t ask me why Diplan.

DiPlan is one of 3 of 50 guys on the rosters who is listed as "NR" on his team's list of top 30 prospects, along with Cubs RHP Manuel Rodriguez and Texas LHP Cole Ragans.

There are 4 guys in it who played in the 2019 game:  Jarred Kelenic, Nolan Gorman, Alek Thomas, and Heliot Ramos (who also appeared in 2018 so this is his 3rd).

If I was Bo Naylor, I might be irked by the alphabetical order snub, but I guess that's just how Adley is #1!

Speculating on a no Grayson angle, maybe it is just not wanting him to pitch at Coors' elevation?

I'm also good keeping him out of a hot throw where he might only have 1-2 innings and 25-ish pitches.

Because you know....we want to push him to 62 pitches.

There is little doubt the Orioles would not let any of their actual pitching prospects participate in the game. Honestly, it's more development by the numbers forget the players or fan's experience.

It is very clear Elias and his staff could care less about the futures game or how much the players would enjoy pitching in it.

Then why did they let Hall and Rodriguez appear in the game in 2019?

Maybe they've changed policy. This is an organization that will only push information out to MASN first before sending it out to anyone else. This is an organization that won't push out minor league injury information like it's some state secrets. This organization does not care about it's fans right now, they just think they will come back when and if they win again.

Sending a non prospect out to this game is a slap in the face of the league and the fans. This isn't the Arizona Fall League where this happens a lot.

According to Law, Tony is right:

Marcos Diplan is also 24, also a reliever, pitching well in Triple A but not more than a middle relief prospect, here in part because the Orioles wouldn’t agree to let any of their best pitching prospects (notably D.L. Hall and Grayson Rodriguez, both of whom pitched in the 2019 Futures Game) appear, although infielder Gunnar Henderson could have been the Orioles’ second rep.
