Not quite…The players on the 60 day IL have to go back on the 50 and will fill those spots.

We are five guys that need to be added from the disabled list, Akin, Stewart, Harvey,Lopez and Mateo.

Fill up the 40 man again, but there’s plenty of other guys will depart, and I fully expect Stewart to go as well.

Abad comes off after the WS. 

I figure Watkins, Kriske, Krehbiel, Mattson, Handhold, and Greene are all likely to come off.

I can’t believe Cuiffo is still on the roster. I think we could find just as good as a backup C on a milb deal and not tie up a 40 man spot all offseason. I get that he’s insurance for Severino. And we do need two catchers until AR arrives after 6/1. 
 

Martin and Bannon could easily go to. They’re not so sound defensively and they haven’t exactly lit AAA on fire either. 
 

Id rather us make some waiver claims on some high ceiling flyers or take advantage of some other teams that might be having legit 40 man roster concerns for players in the Mateo mold.

I like Martin but don’t disagree on either. As for Cuiffo, head scratcher. If they saw something in him, why didn’t they bring him up until the very end? I liked Wynns more between the two.

I'll be honest, I have zero expectations for Hunter Harvey anymore, but, if he was DFA'd by another team, he's the kind of arm I'd be happy to see the Orioles get and stash on the 40-man.

Now I haven't done the full analysis of the 40-man with regard to players who need to be protected yet (busy with prospect stuff obviously), but I just don't see him as a guy you just dump unless it comes down to obsoletely needing a spot.

Do I expect Hunter Harvey to be in the pen next year? Based off his inability to stay healthy I'd say no, but I also know he has the capability to be an effective reliever so in the off chance he can finally stay healthy, that's one less arm to find and he's cheap and controllable.

If gets more than a minor league contract I'd be astounded. He's not a major league player any more.

I have close to the same point of view.  There are a few players that I think make the 40 man roster so they are protected from the Rule 5 draft but are traded during the off season to make room for veterans that need to be added.   Hunter is one,  and Diaz is two.   

You can say they don't have trade value but Elias is pretty good at getting low minors guys or Dominicans in return.  And he values that return.
