The Mark Teixeira Watch part III

Well he's a 200 million dollar player for 10 years as opposed to 8, although I'd give him 8/200 if it would land him.

Anything north of 10/230 is too much IMO, so yes I do have a limit... ;)

I think the Orioles could make a profit by having you negotiate Tex's contract and selling the viewing rights on pay per view. $29.99 to see if JTrea can give away PGA's money faster than Scott Boras can ask for it. The immovable object vs.....the irresistable force type of show. I can see Jim Hunter on the post match show......yeah he gave Tex the franchise and 50% of MASN but what a great move by the Orioles.

"Pay no attention to the Boston infidels! Truly they are slaughtering themselves at the gates of the Warehouse as The Great Angelos, Peace Be With Him, is winning the favor of the Warlord Boras with great gifts of gold and treasure being presented at the feet of the native warrior, the Shiek of Teixera, Praise Be His Name."

You know this how? I've worked with a number of celebrity actors and surprisingly most of them are human, and put their pants on one leg at a time.

And don't forget to mention Bruce Dickenson, yes THE Bruce Dickenson. Who once his pants are on, he makes gold records...Now fellas I gotta have more cowbell!! :laughlol::clap3::laughlol::clap3:

You don't seem to be getting my point. For one, he is now in a position to determine where he and his family live for most of the remainder of his career. If you have children, you know it's important to let them set down roots and establish relationships, particularly in early chilhood. Also it is important for them to have regular contect with their grandparents. Further. if his parents health is in question, then it may be of concern to him to have their grandchikdren close for the next few years or more. These are human concerns that can't be easily solved with just a lot of money and they may weigh heavily with him. They would with me.

Fair enough. There just ain't a lot of players who sign with their hometown team or the city where their parents or even family are. And I think that speaks for itself. Didn't we hear all off-season how Sabathia wanted to play on the West Coast? A big offer sure made that go away quickly. AJ Burnett lives in Monkton, didn't matter much to him either. You hear a lot of talk about players wanting to be close to home but they rarely end up with the team that could make that happen...

I have no idea.

Do you?

I know you have no idea. So what's new? Just kidding.:) But I have one. He signs with O's. He gets the most money, solves his family questions and gets to be the second coming of Cal. All he gives up is a couple of years of winning. Untill Arietta, Tillman, Matusz, Bergeson, Hernandez, Erbe, Spoone, Penn, Olson, Liz etc. pan out. In spite of what you are hearing on ESPN we are in a lot better shape than the Gnats.:laughlol:

CC also got a 3 year opt out clause, would have taken less money from an OC team if it had been offered, and what are the ages of AJ's kids? Do you have children BTW?

I don't know if this is has been posted but Roch thinks we will stay in this despite all the rumors of us dropping out..

Roch, i keep hearing on ESPN that the orioles are going to drop out of the race for Tex. What have you heard?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's just speculation. I'm sure a lot of people are saying the same thing, based on their reluctance in the past to shell out money like the Yankees and Red Sox. - Roch

I'm really confused by this awe-jaw-dropping goo-goo and ga-ga over Mark T.

Folks, there is really something that needs to be said here. We are going to have another last place or second to last finish with or without him.

Why handcuff ourselves with 60 million in money to ONE player over the next 3 years while we wait for more talent to arrive ???

It doesn't make any sense.

We are already in the downy-dumps. We stink worse than we ever thought possible... so, at this point, why not ride out the storm the right way...

Take our time in investing and developing young talent - focusing on pitching.

The last time I checked, Tex can't pitch. Unless the O's were willing to go after some nasty FA pitchers like the Yanks did... it just doesn't make sense why we would dump a ton of money on a stop-gap star that will be well into his 30's before the O's "TEAM" is ready to ramp-it-up and make a run at something real.

Anything outside of that, at this point and time, is just silly IMO. Make the trades, take $ and sign the young pitching talent... and grow this.

IMO if we sign him then it opens the team to other free agents. Instead of all the free agents looking past us, they might consider the team.

It's incredibly short sighted and naive to think that this team isn't on the way up, instead of in the middle of continued carpet mats for the division for another decade.

It's even more short sighted to believe Tex won't expedite the process greatly.

How much money do we have to spend on all of these FAs???? Do you understand how many we are going to need to make this happen right away??? This team is h-u-r-t-i-n-g.

It's not like we are looking for a no. 2 pitcher to fill out the rotation. Right now, we have, what... 1 guy with experience (J Guth) that is really worth much and he would be a 3 --- probably a 4 on the other power players in our division.

We should wait another 3 years and get the base there. Otherwise it's like digging in wet sand for the next 3 or 4 years while we wait for the tide to go out. We should not have to lock-up 150+ million in ONE PLAYER in the meantime.
