ESPN's Ravech: Teixeira has "enormous attraction to the Orioles" Close to signing

Well, if Belkast and BB both basically said the contract was being worked out, we're basically in the clear, right? Obviously, we're never in the clear until it's done, but as far as insider info goes, saying the contract was being worked out is as good as we're going to get before it's official. Am I off-base on this?

Are we both freaking out about this not being done yet?

I think when it is said and done Teixeira will sign with us for slightly less money for one reason. Passion. Passion to wear the jersey of the team he rooted for as a young boy. Passion to be close to his loved ones (His Mother and Father were sick in the past). Passion to take a mediocre Orioles franchise and work to make them a contender. A passion to become a household name like Unitas, Robinson, Ripken, Murray, and Lewis. In the end it is passion, not money or foreign championships that will seal the deal for us.

If passion does not play in his decision, then I would rather him not become an Oriole.

I wouldn't go as far as saying 'off-base'. But in the world of professional sports, a lot of things are in the works, and a lot of the time, they aren't finalized. Even if a major media outlet reports that we have reach an agreement, it doesn't mean it is finalized. I trust our insiders very much so and believe the O's currently have the inside track, but you can never be too confident in something that is 'in the works'- especially when Scott Boras is handling negotiations...

I'll feel better when I see a "Tex agrees to terms" article...

But I'm still highly optimistic and confident. :)

Following on the "friend of a family tied to one team or another" connection theme tonight --

I just got back from a school play in LA. Another school parent is a friend who is closely related to the family that owns the Nationals.

He knows I am a big O's fan and I asked him about two hours ago, "So, are we getting Tex, are you [Nationals] getting him, or the Red Sox?"

He said, "I like our [meaning the Nationals'] chances."

OK -- hope it was puffery -- but that ruined my night -- hope it doesn't ruin yours. Hope he was wrong.

Personally, I have a good feeling about this -- I just can't see Tex taking the interlopers over the brand name locally -- while the O's are down, certainly Tex didn't "grow up watching" the Nats.

FYI, my friend was also about certain that Tex wasn't going to the Angels. And in another part of the conversation he implied it was down to the O's and nats.

Playing Scott Boras for a minute - even if Tex has told me "I want to sign with the O's, get it done", I still play off the Nats against the O's to get the best deal possible.

The more I hear about this, the more I believe that Tex is going to go with his childhood team - I know in his position I'd sign with the club I grew up rooting for with the hope that I could lead them to a world series.

But -- I wouldn't necessarily do it without getting the best possible deal first.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....Go to bed guys. You'll want to be well rested for the news tomorrow. Hopefully.

The longer is is dragging out the more of us are getting worried that it being done tomorrow turns into the next day and so on and if they are hammering out contract details, that's concerning that they might be at a stalemate.

I need to say, I hate Peter Gammons. He hates on the Orioles consistently, and in his latest video talking about Manny maybe going to the LAA (which connotes to me that the Angels really don't have a good chance), he says offhand something like, "what if Texeira goes to the East Coast to a team like the Red Sox or, um, the Nationals."

Figures he wouldn't even mention us in the running.

Hey. Someone mentioned responses by Bigbird and Belkast. Can someone give the cliffnotes of what insides said in this thread. I know the conflicting espn reports, and would love to know what our board people say....without looking through 87 pages of this thread. I'd really appreciate it.

I like getting all of this information and then putting it all together. When we start seeing Teixeira to the Nationals rumors I will assume it is down to the Orioles and Red Sox. When I see Teixeira to the Red Sox or Angels, I have to think that it is down to the Nationals or Orioles. :laughlol: Let's say we go 9/185. I would guess that the Nationals would need to go 10/225 to get him. The Nationals are far away from contention in the NL. At least the Orioles have a small excuse for being bad. They do play in the most difficult division in baseball. I just do not see Tex going to Washington over Baltimore.

In all honesty, the longet this whole thing plays out, the more likely I see the Yankees getting in on the bidding. What's another $185 Million amongst friends in NY?

Do people on here really expect that Angelos will not outbid the Nats if he's already given Tex a "WOW" offer?? I know the last decade gives people pause, but it's pretty apparent that Angelos wants his man.

The O's are going to park a Brink's armored truck in front of Tex's house while the Sox are going to place a couple small boxes filled with rings in his mailbox. The only question is what's more important to him?

I'll take Peter betting against us than for us any day. I believe he predicted we'd land Vlad, so....
