I think the C position is overrated.  Yes, getting premium offense out of that position is harder than anywhere else, that I agree with.  But the defensive side of things means something to me and I think C defense is way overrated.

Doesn't that fact alone make a good hitting catcher more valuable than a similar hitting SS?

Defense matters.  Longevity at position matters.  If the question is, who do you want the next 4-5 years, I probably take Adley but I’m looking at it longer than that.

By whom? Just general conventional wisdom? Both Fangraphs and Bbref agree C has bigger positional adjustment (Fangraphs is slightly higher). Not sure whether that comes from offense or defense. I've been watching a lot of little league this summer and I have definitely come to appreciate the catcher position.

I think both of these guys will be good players and don’t need to debate the pick. I am happy to see Adley’s work behind the plate and hope that he quickly becomes the .300 ish hitter that I was expecting. The key hits are nice but seeing the #1 prospect in baseball hitting .218 kinda stinks.

I said..I THINK.  Did you just choose to not read that?

And I’m glad you are letting 8-12 year olds formulate your opinion on the importance of a baseball position.

How does "I think" clarify what/who you meant by overrated? Ah well, if you're going all caps on me, just have a nice day.

You think.   So you think Baseball Reference and Fangraphs are wrong and you're right.   Fair enough.

Never said that.  I just think the way C defense (not offense) is evaluated is wrong.  And I think if I’m looking over a 10 year period, I prefer the guy who is far younger and isn’t playing the grueling position of C.

It’s that simple.

You didn't say that?   Baseball Reference and Fangraphs put more value on the catching position.   Aren't you saying that you disagree with that?   If you disagree with that then you are saying that you think they are wrong.    You're doing that thing again.   Both sides of the mouth.   Saying on thing out the right side and another thing out of the left side.

I’m saying that I think the defense is overrated.  When they are giving their positional values(the +7.5, +2.5 scale), my understanding is that is for offense.  I’m not disagreeing with the offense.

But the value I put on the defense is high and negates that offensive advantage.  Not to mention the age difference.

Ok.  No problem.  So you think they are wrong as far as the defensive value they attach to the position.
