Why isn’t Stowers here?

Possible reasons Stowers isn’t here.

1.  Service time reasons.

2.  Stowers is deemed not quite ready despite strong MiL offensive numbers and they want him playing every day and working on specific things that will benefit him that aren’t as easily worked on in the majors.  Could be offensive stuff, could be defense.

3.  They think Phillips is better than Stowers right now.

4.  They think Phillips fits what they need right now better than Stowers.

5.  They don’t want to mess with a mix that’s working right now.

Honestky, only reason no. 1 makes any sense to me.

He is reportedly better than Santandar and could fill in CF in a pinch

I thought some were comping him to DJ Stewart? It appears they like Vavra better to replace Mancini. The question is whether Stowers is an upgrade over Odor.

His AAA numbers are good but not elite. Stowers has a K problem and the OBP isnt great. It may just be a case of going with the known quantity versus the risk that he will struggle in the adjustment. Especially when you consider the net impact including defense. I'm not really advocating this, just a guess at the organization's thinking. Then again, they could call him up next week or when rosters expand.

Fans seem to like Vavra at 2B but they haven't seen him play there much.  There is every indication that Elias does no trust his defense at 2B.  That is why he played CF in the minors.  If you saw him play 2B you probably would say 'Roogie would have turned that double play'.

Vavra was called up when Mancini was traded and he is filling the DH spot except when Adley needs a day off from catcher.  Vavra adds OBP to the team.  That is valued.

Phillips was acquired when Hays was out for Phillips' defense in LF.    Now that Hays is back we are back to Hays, Mullins, and Santander in the outfield with Vavra  at DH vs righties.  McKenna is a right-handed bat in CF for Mullins vs lefties.  Phillips is on the bench.   Elias do not want to replace Phillips with Stowers and have Stowers sit the bench.

Stowers and Gunnar are both ready.  Looks like it will take an injury to get them the playing time  they need to be regulars.

Elias/Hyde seems to be big on not messing with a winning team until it starts losing.  And the current O's team are not  losing much.

Meh, if he’s raking in the International League he needs to be up. Some of this is too cute by half and there’s no reason to keep him down when guys like Nevin are on the team.

I had to google "to cute by half".

Some of this is "forest for the trees"  Don't concentrate on the individual trees, just enjoy the whole.

And is more time at AAA going to improve his performance in the majors?

There is no where for him to play regularly. Plus Nevin is rotting on the bench. Plus he’s an infielder. They simply aren’t going to cut Phillips after taking on his salary and McKenna is playing well also in a very limited role. There is no sense in bringing him up and riding the bench while starting his clock.

Who cares about his clock?  Do you want 2029 Stowers on the team?

Elias cares about years of control in regards to value. Maybe he’s not here depending on what they do with Santander and Mullins. Plus the progression of Cowser, Kjerstad, etc. If he’s surplus he’s more valuable with the extra control.

And as I said, Nevin is a rookie who isn’t really getting a chance to prove he can play here and neither is McKenna who is playing well in limited opportunities. Mainly because Hyde’s preference to play mediocre veteran like Odor and Phillips. Odor has his moments but can’t hit any other time and Phillips has had 4 or 5 years of poor batting numbers but he and his salary was brought in over promoting Stowers. Fan are clamoring for him to be here but management obviously isn’t at this point.
