All prospect team

Name your all prospect team using players who have NO major league time at all.   You must use players at a realistic position.  For example, Coby Mayo can be used at 3B, 1B, LF or RF.  Those are realistic positions for him at this point.

1B Mayo

2B Ortiz

SS Holliday

3B Westburg

C  Basallo

LF Beavers

CF Cowser

RF Kjerstad

DH Norby

Starting pitchers

Grayson Rodriguez

Drew Rom

Jean Pinto

Cade Povich

Chayce McDermott

Relief Pitchers

Noah Denoyer

Just Armbruester

Ryan Watson

Not to be nitpicky, buy Yennier Cano saw a few innings both with Minnesota and with the Orioles this season.

But it's a great list, I'm having trouble trying to think of others who would be more worthy.

I knew that and broke my own rules.  My bad.  I'll make the correction.

If you make the rules, you can amend them to your favor.

I was trying to think of a different relief arm that would be worth, but we sure get thin real quick in the pitching department. Jake Prizina maybe?

Wait, no Creed Willems?

;)

Haha.  Someone picked him as a beakout candidate for next year in another thread and I though that was a good choice.   At this point, gotta go with Basallo.   It would be interesting to see if Handley would be next or ..........

From a 'priority play' perspective, Jackson Holliday gets starting reps at SS with Ortiz getting his share of time at SS and 2B too.

Norby/Westburg/Kjerstad would be getting some 'developmental' reps at 1B for me too.

Max Wagner sounds like a solid bench option and Haskins as CF depth.

And since there's no time frame on the rules of engagement, Seth Johnson should get some type of honorable mention.

This is so much more fun when we actually have prospects!

I did over with Holliday in.   I took out Fabian and moved the others around a little.

Fabian is obviously a better defender and although you could make the case that Fabian did even better than Kjerstad at Delmarva, I'm not ready to push Fabian ahead just yet.   It's quite possible that by this time next year, that Fabian is a better prospect than Kjerstad but I'm not ready to bet that way.

Going to be fascinating to see how much Elias trusts our home grown guys versus where he thinks we need to add from the outside.

The conventional wisdom is you really can't build from within. Obviously you can to some degree, but most think a lot of churning is needed to build a champion. I have no idea how he'll proceed, but could argue that he should just spend on pitching and let the home grown bats fill all of the batting/fielding gaps.

Yea I can see that.  Fabian needs to show the hit tool more.

OToH, so does Kjerstad.  We don’t know if he will ever be the player we hoped he would be.

I don’t think it’s wrong to go with Fabian.  Hopefully Kjerstad really takes off in 2023.

    • I know. I'm a hand wringer and a whiner when it comes to this team. I sometimes annoy myself with all this baseball nonsense. But really deep down,I'm still the 8 year old who lived and died with every Oriole game. Still. Im that kid. So when this team was really horrible like for most of the second half, it almost made me nauseous just to watch them lose in all kinds of ways. Then all those injuries in a wave. I really felt they weren't going to make the postseason at all. But baseball is a crazy game, and a light switch can be turned on in an instant. Maybe that Santander walk off HR on Thursday threw a switch. Because Friday night, this was a different team. They still strike out a lot, and Burnes was brilliant, but I feel maybe something is moving. Seeing Coluombe come in and strike two batters out, and Webb, not as good, but good enough with a big lead...and to see Cowser and McCann blast two, and Tony again with a HR...It got my juices flowing. Look, maybe they wont play well this weekend, maybe they will. And then the dreaded Yankees might break our hearts next week. But why think that way now.?Urias is coming, then Westburg, then maybe Mounty, and even possibly Grayson at the end . If we can somehow put the pieces together and get our mojo back, and have the players contribute, we maybe, just maybe, might have a little ray of hope.I still think this roster is talented when all our pieces are together, and as good as anyone when we are playing well. So, I'm not asking for a miracle. I'm just asking for a chance to see this team with most of the pieces together again, and compete.Maybe it's even a long shot, but I am still that 8 year old living and dying for a chance to see my boys make me proud. And these are my boys.
    • Velocity was 1.5-2mph down across the board. Movement was good, especially the sweeper. The fastballs worry me at that velocity though... not sure he should be immediately high leverage in the way he used to be.
    • Nicely done. Lol. Yes I remember that with Minnesota.
    • Is there any chance of the Orioles catching any of the teams in front of them with large crowds over the weekend?
    • Wells and Cowser are neck and neck in terms of fWAR. Could go either way
    • Joey Ortiz was in the running for the National League ROY for a while, but there’s too many other guys. However, he will almost certainly be a gold glove finalist, and the Brewers are all very happy to have him. I hope Colton wins, but if the Yankees win the division, as seems likely, I think the national love will go back to them
