Meoli makes a case for/thinks there’s a philosophical match pursuing Senga.
He sites Senga 4seamer rise/hop paired with a sinker/“ghost fork” with a higher K rate than Bautista’s (in Japan vs MLB).  And that his slider and cutter are ways to attack righties and lefties respectively.

Meoli notes Senga’s desire to play in a big competitive market and there’s nothing we can do about our market size.  But Senga also said he wanted to learn more about analytics.  Which is a focus and maybe a relative strength compared to other teams at this point.

Neat article.

It would be my preference if we can get it done.

I don’t believe the Rays are serious enough to make it happen but who knows.

Well, they were the team competing with the Dodgers for Freeman last year. If I remember correctly the Dodgers only went to 6 years because Tampa was also offering him a 6th year and that's what finally got him to sign for them.

Yes ….but you always have to be concerned about their next sell off.

That, and Freddie's agents failing to disclose to their client that they had a higher 5 year offer from the Braves on the table.

Look at it this way: he signed with the best team in baseball, which plays in a state that has no state income tax.  What would it have taken to beat Houston’s offer?  Wouid even 3/$63 mm have done it?

I'm not some people understand how important these state income taxes are when players decide. Texas and Florida teams always start with that advantage. If the Astros want a player, the Orioles better be ready to well overspend to get them away.

Maybe we could make the case that playing in the AL East is like the big market league of the MLB? Lol. Streeeeetch.

Definitely would need to sell him on the analytics side, the park effects now, and the fact they are going to put a good defense around him.

Honestly, for the first time in a long time, outside of our sales tax and having to pitch in the AL East, Baltimore is a good place to come for pitchers now.
