Dean Kremer 2023

Just Regular

If he gets Game 1 for Israel, it will be next Sunday afternoon against Nicaragua.

The March 12-15 schedule for Team Israel is Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela.     On paper Nicaragua looks like as good a shot as any.     Kremer was good in 2-inning and 3-inning outings already this spring.       Five next week would be about the rhythm, but we'll see how much the manager looks to him to, as Jordan Lyles might put it, scratch one out for the boys.

I'll be at the Israel vs Dominican Republic game on 3/14.

I just took a look at the '17 results and apparently Israel swept their initial group and went 4-2 overall. Led by a couple good starts Jason Marquis who had most recently pitched to a 6.46 ERA in 2015 and never threw another pitch in the majors.

I see Zack and Buck's brother is playing for the Fightin' Noriegas.  That's pretty cool.

I'm assuming that Kremer is going to get that Game 1 start.  Hope he does well and makes it through the WBC injury free.  He's a big key for the success of this team for this season, IMO.  If he pitches well like he did to end the season last year, that's a big boost for us.

I hope he pitches well through his 60-65 pitches, then the bullpen implodes and they lose. Then they lose whatever it takes to be knocked out so we can get him back in camp where he can safely be used in games that really don't matter again this spring.

Hey Tony!  How do YOU feel about the WBC? :)

Yes, I will most of the time be rooting for Orioles pitchers to get bounced ASAP in the WBC lol.

Hitters is different. I could get behind Mullins tearing up a long stretch of USA baseball. Much less risk there. I'm rooting for Mullins to pull in his own Jones/Manny robbery.

Yeah, I don't have much of an issue with hitters at the WBC. They're getting the same work though if someone gets hurt playing extra hard because the games matter, I won't be happy.

Maybe its just me, but why is the WBC more important than holding down a rotation spot? I mean, its not the Olympics or anything.

For some reason I feel like this could set him back in ST, and the team doesn't need that in its rotation.

Why would it set him back?

The pitch clock is one example, but I guess he's seen it already in the minors.

I feel like major league camp is a better environment for someone trying to win a rotation spot.

Hopefully Hyde has him on a regular regiment.

But he gets this cool shirt.

I also don't think it hurts his chances to make the team.  This stuff if going to be closely monitored.

No guarantee he goes in the first game.   A starter is only going to start once so you want your best guy in the most important game.

There is probably some strategery involved.   The Dominican team is probably the best, and you are trying to finish in the top 2 in the group to advance, so maybe you use your best pitcher against the #2 team.   Which might be Puerto Rico or Venezuela.

FWIW, Israel is playing an exhibition vs the Marlins tomorrow night and their starter is TBD.   If he goes in that, he certainly won't go on 3 days rest vs Nicaragua Sunday, but maybe goes on his regular turn Monday vs Puerto Rico.

By the way, he isn't the only Oriole on Team Israel.   Daniel Federman, who pitched for Aberdeen and Delmarva last year, is also on the team.   (As is Maryland alum and MLB P Adam Kolarek, and former Oriole Danny Valencia.

    • Funny thing is, if the O's win, I'm generally so psyched on my way out that I don't even notice all of these annoyances. I'm just happy that the team won. That was my experience a lot this year when the team was doing well. Unfortunately about half of my 13 game season ticket plan was in August and September, plus I got to watch one of the pathetic WC games. You can smooth over a fair bit of fan annoyance with winning, but at the end of the day, someone has to care about the little things and actually invest money to make them better. There's no longer any question about whether the O's will be here to stay. The government and the team are aligned: OPACY and the Orioles are here, and we're going to make the best of what we have, and make it a centerpiece of Baltimore. That's great. But now they have to put their money where their mouths are. Show fans from all walks of life that we are able to reimagine OPACY and the surrounding area in the image of an efficient, clean, 21st century facility, starting with things as basic as infrastructure and plumbing, and ranging as far as parking, public trans, and food at the park. Honestly? I sort-of understood why they weren't investing in anything in the years when (1) the team was bad, and (2) ownership wasn't invested in the team, and (3) the renewal of the lease with the Maryland Stadium Authority was in doubt. The vast majority of points (1), (2) and (3) above are now non-issues, or have been majorly mitigated in the past 2 years. So it's time to make things right. Otherwise why bother with the long-term commitment at all, if you're just going to let the project languish?
