Cedric Mullins 2023

Are you not entertained!!!!!

When he first came up in 2018, I wouldn't have been shocked if he was Xavier Avery 2.0, but he instantly became one of my favorite players at the beginning of that dark period of fandom. I'm happy as a beaver in a softwood forest in spring that he's still with us and kicking butt.

Cedric  looks a bit heavier but I can't see where he's lost a step.

The numbers say he has.  Sprint speed by year:

2018: 29.4

2019: 29.1

2020: 28.7

2021: 28.5

2022: 28.4

2023: 28.0

Still 75th percentile, but he started at 95th.

I'm enjoying Cedric controlling the strike zone at near Gunnar-Adley levels so far.     I think that's some the ongoing coaching bearing fruit (though he wasn't this good in past years) and some Adley just being the center of gravity for the franchise.

At some point Cowser and Holliday will join the party, and there will be plenty of ducks on the pond for the RBI guys.

Spot checking the YTD Chase Rate leaderboard, it also reminded me that Connor Joe is the MLB wide leader so far.    He's Gunnar turned up to 11 not chasing and not swinging.

This has been huge for Mullins this year.  Overall, he’s just very zen right now.  Not swinging at balls, and not swinging for the fences on every pitch.

A lineup with Mullins, Adley, Gunnar, Cowser and Holliday would be very enjoyable to watch.   I’ve noticed that Coby Mayo is starting to trend that way, too.

Chris Davis was merely ahead of his time.

Didn't realize he was a 15th-round draft choice. Kudos to the scouting, development, and his own determination and tremendous hard work, especially after the humbling experience of 2019.

I had to remember recently that he was a switch hitter up until 3 years ago. Pretty wild what he’s done. Good for him. Love me some Ced.

With such teammates and Hyde at the helm, the club has true humility and character.

Someone needs to tell the bullpen about the humility.

Personally, I do not like the light show/Omar’s whistle extravaganza when Bautista enters the game.  All that does is rile up the opposing team IMO, and put more pressure on Bautista.

As to the antics of Baker and Cano, they don’t bother me much but the moonwalking by Baker is kind of a poke in the eye to the other team that I don’t like.  I sort of felt like it was spontaneous the first time, but calculated the second time.  (I didn’t see his inning last night — did he pull anything?

If I remember correctly, he showed some emotion with a fist pump and shout directed towards his teammates when he ended the inning with a K. Nothing that I felt was disrespectful to the other team, which I do not like at all, either.
