Industry sources say the Orioles have decided to remove infielder Oscar Salazar from their 40-man roster to make room for catcher Gregg Zaun.

They hope to re-sign him if he passes through waivers.

Wow...ok so that probably means 13 pitchers. And I doubt he passes thru waivers

Very surprising. I really expect him to get nabbed by the Royals or somesuch.

Seems strange to me, I was thinking it would be Buress for sure. I was never the biggest Salazar fan but I still dont like this move.

I won't...I haven't disagreed with a whole lot that MacPhail has done, but this is a bad move.

That career minor leaguer hit pretty darn well for the Orioles. He could have at least been tried out at 3B as a replacement for Mora.

On the other hand Scott Moore no longer has competition for that spot, but he'll be the next one to go when we go with 13 pitchers...

Can anybody pull up Salazar's winter league #'s? Last I heard was that he was slumping after starting off hot.

Also remember guys he's a career minor leaguer that is listed at an age of "30".

Odd. I have to believe that MacPhail is only about half done making over this roster. Salazar was certainly a useful piece, but only if they didn't find a real 1B/DH, or they were going to carry a reasonably small number of pitchers.
