It was useful on Saturday when he knocked in the winning run from 3B that way.  I’d much rather have him up in a situation like that than some guy who strikes out 30% of the time.  

But generally, if his slash line stays about where it is now (.206/.289/.338), he won’t be very useful.

Yea?  In that one particular game instance it was good....

If the guy that strikes out 30% of the time can get the ball in the air than I think it's pretty even.

A strikeout only counts as one out.

I'm very much on the fence on Cowser. Not his talent mind, just if he is ready to be called up. Will respect whatever decision the club makes of course.

It would be nice to move Hays to the IL to heal and call up Cowser during this long stretch against two bottom tier teams. We will need all hands on deck and would be better off not going through this long stretch a man down.

If their ready to make Santander the full time DH, feel as if there's no longer a developmental benefit for Cowser being in AAA and he can get everyday playing time bring him up, but not simply just to replace Vavra and only play sparingly.

I would love to see Cowser called up and given a chance to play. But he is and will in no way be a replacement for Hays right now at the plate. Hays has been one of our best hitters in this young season along with Mateo and Adley. With Santander struggling and Gunnar still trying to figure things out, we actually need Hays in the lineup.

Cowser like almost all young players in this modern era of baseball will most likely struggle out of the gate to hit (I mean 20-30 games worth at least). While I believe that he could probably replace Varva's (non)production, I don't see it as being realistic in any way that he can give us what Hays has been giving us so far, especially right now out of the gate.

Must be some value.  This is a smart front office. The idea that they would spend $8mm on a player that wasn’t necessary seems unlikely.

Might have been the only move available within their budget. Who knows whether that budget was self-imposed or dictated by ownership. But either way, the budget wasn't high enough to sign a pitcher/impact bat, so they addressed the biggest position of "need" with the money they had set aside as prudent.

Which, whatever. Seemed inevitable this was going to be an issue. But Odor --> Frazier is an upgrade. And maybe they want the insurance/utility player. So fine.

But you have to go by the information we have available to us now. Frazier isn't hitting the way he usually has, and the IF prospects are hitting as well as they ever have. Frazier is a sunk cost now. The fact that you spent money on him in the past should not be taken into consideration.

It was almost assuredly imposed by the awful ownership of the team. What GM would say, "nope, don't want any of the good players. Give me the mediocre, ones?"

With all of the infield prospects that we have at AAA AND the fact that they chose to add Frazier as a redundant player when they already were planing to keep Varva (who has a very similar skillset) says to me that there was no grand brilliant plan. It was a mistake. Which anyone can make from time to time. 

I'm just hopeful that we don't continue down this road like we did Odor all year last season.

What else do you feel he needs to do at AAA to be ready for the majors?
