I believe Ortiz (.950 OPS in AAA) is a trade candidate, but fits well at SS or 2B right now.  Frazier (.699 OPS) is decent, not a liability in the field or at bat, but not good either.  As I mentioned above, Prieto (.963 OPS in AAA) is also awaiting his shot at 2B right now.

I don’t see consistent playing time for Ortiz right now. Have Gunnar, Urias, Westburg, Frazier already here. Also Mateo. I have no desire to move on from Frazier. 
 

Keep in mind we add another position player in September and also most teams don’t carry 13 arms in the playoffs. I expect Joey to be back up here at some point. The trade question is a separate one.

I think the O's call up a pitcher and a catcher in September.

Ortiz is probably up before that during to injuries or trades.

I don't expect Prieto in the majors this season for the O's.  He does not have to be protected from the  Rule 5 draft.   And he has only played a few games at AAA.   Westburg played 158 games at AAA before he was called up.   That is one of the ways Elias keeps a deep farm system.  He will not be 25 until May.

For position players, this season, I believe the team is set until September, and the only way it changes is with a deadline trade.  Mountcastle is optioned.  Ortiz is simply stuck.

Everyone is waiting at this point to see which infielders, if any, are traded and for which pitchers.  I would not bet on it being a big move, but something will happen.

This could be the most likely scenario.

I like Frazier and would not just DFA him to get whatever Ortiz has to offer above his contribution for another couple months. 
If we can package him in a deal , sure. But I think his contributions are more than just stats.

Some are still seeing Urias as a spare part, but those clutch oppo doubles with RISP (and GG defense) is going to come in handy come playoff time.

His career OPS+ is 108, his high leverage OPS+ is 117 (108 in 2023).

His medium leverage number is lower than his combined number.

I don't think he's got the clutch skill.

On the bright side the numbers aren't bad at all. 

The only objection I have to him being on the team is that I think another team could better utilize him.  I think he's a starter somewhere.

I'm new to leverage stats as they apply to baseball.  Are they adjusted to league averages for the situation?  It occurs to me that some high leverage situations may be more or less likely to result in a hit/BB due to a faltering pitcher or platoon advantaged relief.
