Is Luzardo a realistic target?

Ortiz, Irvin, Mateo, Baumann, and Pham plus cash for Luzardo.

It lacks a true pitching prospect, perhaps. But the Marlins get their future SS in Ortiz, a ML SS in Mateo, a SP/swingman, a decent reliever with 5 more years of control, and a low level SP prospect. O's send a little cash to cover half of Mateo's $2.7 mil.

This is the exact opposite of the Basallo/Mayo deal.

And just as unlikely.

If they really want a bat and a SS, how about Santander plus Ortiz straight up. They get a bopper and a SS, we get a SP. Everyone's happy, even though we're crossing our fingers that Kjerstad can be Santander.

Because a high upside SP with 3 years of control is worth a lot more than a 1 year contract for Anthony Santander and 1 top 100 prospect.

Why stop there? Might as well throw in a guy selling peanuts on the street corner and an underpaid team store employee too.

Agreed, let's add him in there. Is there a groundscrew prospect we can throw in, like Nicole Sherry's protege or something?

Orioles get: Jesus Luzardo, Max Mayer, Anthony Bender

Marlins get: Cowser, Kremer, Ortiz, Bradfield, Povich, Jacob Webb/Mike Bauman

Who says no?

Upgrades O’s pitching while addressing critical Marlins needs (shortstop/outfield).  Marlins trade quality for availability without needing to backfill rotation spot as they had to do after the Pablo Lopez trade.

If Marlins side too light:

- Add Ryan O’Hearn

- Swap O’s Comp A and Marlins Comp B pick

- Trade O’s comp A pick

- Add additional piece outside our top 15

- Remove relievers from both sides

if O’s side too light:

- remove Bradfield

- swap Povich for Baumeister/Seth Johnson/Baumler

- Add in Marlins comp B pick

- Add Marlins prospect

Define “everyone”.

I don't see any way that the Orioles part with Cowser, Ortiz, Povich and Bradfield in the same trade. That's fantasyland stuff right there.

A for effort.  Not bad but a bit too complicated.

Ortiz doesn’t have the value that a lot of people think he does. He’s likely most valuable to us as a Ramon Urias replacement at this point.
