I don't think there's any good reason why MLB or the other owners would block this move.  I think MLB and the other owners understand that Angelos is not popular with the fanbase specifically and not well thought of by others outside the fanbase, too.  The Rubenstien group represents the type of group that the MLB would like to have owning one of their franchises.  I can't imagine who'd look to block this move.

You're right, that is probably the thing I'm worried about the least. Mostly I am just eager to hear more from the Orioles in general when the time is right. That won't be until after approval though.

Isn't Bloomberg a Yankees fan? I am wondering how a couple of billionaires from New York being part of the ownership group is going to affect the synergy of operations for the franchise, knowing they had more interest in the team's division rival in the past.

We all did dumb crap when we were younger.

I agree and wonder why Bloomsberg is part of the ownership group unless Rubenstein really needed the financial help to get to 40%.

I have no doubt their good friends and maybe it could be a friendly gesture and nothing more.

He's connected to the area - he went to Hopkins and continues to donate lots of money there. Maybe he's secretly been an O's fan this entire time.

Does anyone else feel like this news hasn’t really hit them yet?  I don’t feel it’s sunk in.

I think there's subtle uncertainty over all of the unknowns, of which there are many, and that's kind of giving me that sense of restrained excitement.

It's going to happen, but when will it be finalized? When, if at all, will we see a change in the way the team is currently managed from a financial standpoint? Will additional resources be immediately available or will it depend first on MLB approval of the deal? Or maybe all of next season and into the 2024-2025 offseason while the new ownership gets a handle on the operation? Will Elias have the authority to adjust course quickly on strategy regarding his budget and prospects? What will happen with MASN, and could we have future streaming options like Monumental apparently offers? Will the minority owners have roles of any consequence outside of passive investors?

All of this will take a long time to play out I imagine, but I keep hoping we get answers on these questions sooner rather than later.

The rest of the American League East might object.  They like Angelos not spending money.

I don't really care, and don't expect anything to be disclosed early, but it would be interesting to know the respective kick-ins of Rubinstein, Arougheti and Bloomberg towards the $1.725B.      It looks like only Bloomberg can cover about one third, and take it more or less in stride relative to net worth.

I suppose one day info may trickle out the same as these days Tom Clancy has X percent, the Angeloses Y percent, etc.

Young Grant Hill helping Duke past UNLV after they'd been blown out the other year is on the short list of thrilling sports moments involving teams I didn't have a personal fan interest in.     Perhaps to drum up interest Commissioner Manfred can arrange for a tied Orioles-Dodgers game to be settled by Grant v. Magic 1-on-1 instead of anything involving a ghost runner.

We should all remember for the 2-year span UNLV had the far better Pythagorean record.

UNLV was way more fun, too.  As was the Fab 5.

I'm curious if Rubenstein will want to try and make a statement move to get the goodwill behind him early on, or if that's not really how he's approaching things. Certainly Elias doesn't feel like a "statement for the sake of it" guy.

Although it wouldn't take much to make a statement around here.

Signing Gunnar for 10 years would be a good start.  ;)

    • Mayo coming back from injury could have his debut in Baltimore delayed.
    • Wasn't a huge fan of his swing for that last out today but coming in to pinch hit with 2 outs isn't easy.
    • Interpreting Malike's comment that way is theoretically possible, but I didn't take it that way--didn't feel that shade was being thrown on me at all. But thanks for the concern.
    • People are being a bit ridiculous with the holier than thou takes criticizing a little humor. I am not saying what happened couldn’t cause a significant concussion, but it would be a bit of a fluke if it did. Mullins barely hit him with the bat and he had a helmet on. The fact that it was in the back of the head did make him more vulnerable, but this wasn’t the type of thing you see and think he was lucky to be alive.  Guys have probably hit their heads harder on the top of the dugout or on the fence making catches.  And note this comes from someone whose son has suffered severe concussions and who is well aware of the dangers associated with them. In short, people need to lighten up a bit on guys like Roy.  It was a little gallows humor.
    • Yeah, you read that wrong. LA2 is one of my favorite posters here and he knows it. No harm, no foul. If you aren't familiar with the game threads, it doesn't matter what the team is doing, people complain about it and people did make that same joke in the game thread long before Roy said it here. Game thread in summary - when the O's are not doing well, it's insufferable, when they are doing well, it's mildly less insufferable. There, that wasn't hard. I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume I'm throwing shade at people. I'll leave that up to you to do, you're really good at it.
    • Comp a. Like Gunnar, and beavers…
    • Wasn't Westburg a 2nd round draft pick?  It's a little early to judge last year's draft.
