Opening Day 3 Weeks Away - What is your prediction of the lineup? If you were the manager what would the lineup be?

We have made it through about half of spring training and are now three weeks away from real baseball.  I spend more of my mental energy than I care to admit thinking about the Orioles lineup, playing time, positional alignment, etc.  Two questions for the Hangout.  What is your prediction for the Opening Day lineup?  If you were the manager and GM and got to write the lineup card with anyone in the organization what would it be?

The expected Opening Day starter for the Angels is either LHP Patrick Sandoval or Tyler Anderson so that will likely have a big impact on the order.

Predicted Opening Day Lineup

Rutschman - C

Henderson - SS

Santander - RF

Mountcastle - 1B

Hays - LF

Westburg - 3B

Urias - DH

Mullins - CF

Holliday - 2B

The lineup if they let me write it

Holliday - 2B

Rutschman - C

Henderson - SS

Santander - RF

Mountcastle  - 1B

Mayo - DH

Hays - LF

Westburg - 3B

Mullins - CF

Doing this exercise indicated to me that they need to find a way to keep Mayo.  They just seem a RHH short against LHP without him.  I strongly considered Cowser in RF with Santander at DH and Mayo at 3B but having Henderson, Holliday, Cowser and Mullins all LHH in the lineup is tough.  I don't think ultimately Mayo will make the team out of Spring Training but I hope he is up soon his bat is a huge X-Factor for this team and I believe will be needed against LHP all year.  If Holliday struggles against LHH I can see Westburg at 2B some with Mayo / Urias at 3B / DH.

Anyone want to make some opening day lineup predictions before it hits twitter?

Mullins CF

Rutschman C

Henderson SS

Santander DH

Mountcastle 1B

Hays LF

Westburg 2B

Cowser RF

Urias 3B

I have a hard time seeing Cowser getting the start vs the LHP but I just don't see a better RH DH on the roster, McCann?  I don't know, I am sure someone has an idea I will like better.

Whatcha got?

Yeah, that right hand DH spot sucks, especially with Adley catching.

It is a strange roster for sure, that is why the only that makes any sense to me is Cowser being an everyday RF even against LHP. Santander moving to primary DH when Adley catches

Once the Orioles decide to set their 26 man roster I'll be ready to make a lineup prediction.  ;)

At this rate I think we will see the lineup card before we see the final 26 man.

    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
    • Adley looks way more energized and McCann is veteran catcher who is good defensively and handles the pitchers well.  Doesn't really make sense to wear Adley out when the O's are using him at the top of the lineup.
    • Just seems like a more controlled swing from the right side, shorter, flatter.
    • He was signed in the Covid year when they only had a 5 round draft, which is why he was undrafted.  Was showing promise bur tore his UCL in 2022.  Pitched a little last year, this is his first full year back.  Nice to see the good outing.
    • What's up with Brandon Young? Out of nowhere (#30 prospect above... undrafted?) he goes 3 IP with 0 hits or walks, and 7 Ks, throwing an otherworldly 26 of 31 pitches for strikes, in Bowie's game today.
