The real question is will they have the guts to trade Mounty in the offseason to open up first.  In order to do so, you need to make sure Mayo can play first, so this makes sense.

I think it was in the last 1-2 years the Guardians put some kid at 1B in the playoffs who hadn't really played there to get an extra bat in the lineup.

Where did you get all that info from?

They are going to keep his rookie eligibility.  Look for a Gunnar like call-up at best.  Team is in first and well in the playoff picture.  No need to hurry. Just needs to be on the postseason roster.

This is starting to get very close in my mind.

Regular season ends 9.29, so the 45 days of service could be under-ed about mid-August.

Gunnar was end of August but he played everyday and Mayo won't.     From ~8/20 to ~9/30 he wouldn't get 130 AB.

If you cling to your Ramon Urias hoping to find a little value on 7/30, it is barely two more weeks.     Keeping Mayo off the 40 through at least 7/30 gives Elias more roster spaces for better relief pitchers to occupy.

As I’ve said before the rookie eligibility stuff is a double edged sword. I’d rather have an extra year of Gunnar or Adley at 1 million dollars than the 32 overall crap shoot.
