I'm guessing no extension and that when asked "why now" Elias will give a sorta non-committal answer but mention these things

  • Holliday looked good in his AAA time at bat and at 2b.
  • MLB infield not hitting well.
  • A more RHP slate coming up after lots of LHP opponents in the early series.
  • Maybe he will mention that they think Holliday is the type of talent who could win ROY, and they were considering the draft pick.

If there's one thing I'm sure of in all of this, it's that Elias is never going to share the real thinking behind how this was handled. At least not until his tell-all autobiography in a couple of decades.

Oh, well as a prank on Billy Ripken, some of the players wrote #@$% Face on the butt of Billy's bat as it was the day Topps I think was taking pics for their baseball cards. No one caught it and a few cards were made until Topps caught wind and airbrushed it out.

Billy wrote it himself.

For nearly 20 years, Billy Ripken hasn't told the whole story. That is, until he revealed to me how it all went down:

"I got a dozen bats in front of my locker during the 1988 season. I pulled the bats out, model R161, and noticed--because of the grain patterns--that they were too heavy. But I decided I'd use one of them, at the very least, for my batting practice bat."

"Now I had to write something on the bat. At Memorial Stadium, the bat room was not too close to the clubhouse, so I wanted to write something that I could find immediately if I looked up and it was 4:44 and I had to get out there on the field a minute later and not be late. There were five big grocery carts full of bats in there and if I wrote my number 3, it could be too confusing. So I wrote 'F--k' Face on it."

The one where I'm being sarcastic and people aren't picking up on it.

Pulling your leg, I'm well aware and have several copies.

I was gonna say, I think Moose is a cards guy. I think he turned me on to Topps Now with posts about it here.

You're right. He wore it after his dad.

Actually....

Cal Sr returned to the team from 1989 to 1992 as the 3rd base coach.

I assume he wore #7 then?    So he would still be the last one.

It's exciting to see Jackson pick the number Seven. While some Elias may have been greedy with his service time, Jackson will surely be the pride of Baltimore. His wrath will be unleashed on the ball, some even say he will murder it. He will be the envy of other teams. Women will lust after him. Also, most people don't know this but he has a pet sloth.

I am.  Didn't collect cards for about 20 years but I'm back into it.

Speaking of, Topps Now Jackson Holliday debut cards are gonna be cool.  I don't think they ever end up being worth much but they're still a cool keepsake to have.

Man, there are people who are just bound and determined not to just feel joy. Goodness gracious now an attendance related conspiracy theory. You have to be kidding me b

Yo, chill. Is this not a discussion forum where people can voice their opinions? Geez, every little comment gets torn to shreds.
