Baumann '23 was almost as good as Akin '22, and 10x better than Akin '23. Yet after one good month of Akin everyone is saying Baumann is completely expendable while Akin is a core guy that can't even be optioned for 10 days. I don't get it. 

If you look solely at ERA, Akin from 2022-2024 is 3.93, and Bauman for 2023-2024 is 3.84.

If you look at FIP/xFIP, which has historically proven more predictive of future performance, Akin has been ~1.3 runs better over that those timeframes.

Yes, but they both also conclude that all these stats are better predictors of ERA than ERA itself.
