If Elias had any self respect, he would release Kimbrel.

It's so easy to do the right thing and release him - it blows my mind that a smart guy like Elias doesn't understand sunk cost fallacy. He did the same thing with Adam Frazier last season.

At least they have basically stopped pitching him in winnable games. I don't really care if he takes up a roster spot as long as they limit the damage he can do.

Letting him take up a roster spot is simply not good baseball. Irvin would have been a better usage of the spot, because at least Irvin can go 3+ innings in games that get out of hand. Kimbrel brings absolutely no value to the team, and him taking up a roster spot is an opportunity cost.

Brandon Young could be contributing to this team. He at least deserves an audition, and Kimbrel taking up a roster spot preventing that is more negative value/opportunity cost resulting from not releasing him.

You obviously weren't paying any attention. Are you the new board name for DirtyBird, the former troll king of horrible quick takes?

In some ways, Frazier was actually just as bad as Kimbrel because Frazier was putrid with the bat and also one of the worst defensive 2B in baseball in terms of his range. So he silently killed the Orioles last season, and Elias and Hyde allowed it to happen.

Frazier didn't hit a single home run after July 14 - which is a ridiculous drought even for a small MI with little power - and hit to a .566 OPS in August and .657 OPS in September. It was a clear and easy move to install Jordan Westburg as the every day 2B to replace Frazier, but instead Hyde and Elias opted to keep starting Frazier in the strong side of a platoon even though he was a mediocre at best hitter all season prior to Westburg's MLB debut, and even though Westburg wasn't ever a platoon bat.

It also would have been the correct and easy move to give Joey Ortiz some of Frazier's undeserved playing time. Ultimately, Frazier should have been released any time after the trade deadline so that Westburg could have played every day and so Ortiz could have played more regularly in place of Frazier, Mateo, and Urias as well. Elias never released Frazier and Hyde never made those moves, opting to favor mediocre veterans as they've done multiple times since then, hurting the team's development substantially.

Yeah, I mean look what happened tonight.  He came in the 9th in a 4-0 game and he couldn't even get 3 outs.  He allowed 6 runs and we had to use an extra pitcher.  It's time to cut this guy loose.

No, i'm not a troll. Ortiz did get a small look, fell on his ass, so they played the vet. Westy did way better, so the vet started to lose playing time. Mateo and Urias as well? how good they might look if still here taking playing time from Holliday, Mayo and others. My response was not a troll AF was worth 1.7 War last year vs Kimbrel - negative 0.4 WAr not counting tonight,

Well, hmm. Ask the Phillies if they regret relying on Kimbrel in the playoffs. You may have your answer whether you want him on the roster IF the O’s hold onto a wild card spot. Or at this point, are you comfortable having him on the roster while trying to nail down that spot! I’m not and I’m sure his team mates cringe when they see him get up.
