He's back! Tejada signs 1-yr deal.

Still not sure why we need to think about trading Scott. Neither Atkins nor Wigginton are capable of being an everyday first baseman, so why not play Scott against RHPs? Trading Scott would be a poor decision.

Adding Tejada is an awesome move, especially since it's just this year. That means that Tejada, Izturis, Atkins, and Wigginton will all be gone after this season, giving us even more room to bring in younger, cheaper talent from our system, or the ability to sign a big-time FA without having veteran dead weight sitting on the bench.

Because DT isn't going to do that unless it is extremely spot duty or injury issues.

I find it hilarious that you slam MacPhail for valuing defense so much and then when he signs someone who still has a relatively potent bat, you slam him for not being a top notch defender.

MacPhail could claim that the sky is blue and you'd beg to differ.

My thoughts exactly. Trea's reaction to anything AM does is very predictable.

Put me in the column of liking the move. Not a bad short term bridge to Bell.

I agree that it will be difficult to spread the ABs around, but I can't honestly say that we are in a position to be trading talent unless it is to acquire very specific talent in return.

What organization has a decent stock of MI prospects? Do you think Scott can fetch us a future contributor?

Well, this clinches the idea of no Scott at first, at least on a regular basis...Reimold will not be DH'ing much now...So, Pie is the one who gets squeezed.

Honestly, I think no Scott at first was pretty muich clinched when his late season "tryout" at 1B was limited to an extremely few games.

BRob

Tejada

Markakis

Jones

Wieters

Reimold

Scott

Atkins

Izzy

Jones and Reimold may be switched but that seems like it will be the everyday lineup.

I'd probably prefer:

Roberts

Markakis

Wieters

Reimold

Tejada

Jones

Scott

Atkins

Izturis

Maybe you flip-flop Tejada and Wieters to begin the season, but I think Matt is ultimately going to bat third for us.

Hello everyone, long time listener and firs-time poster

Just in case you haven't seen a lot of Joe Crede, he's not now nor has he ever been a model of consistancy:

I live in Chicago and have watched or heard about Crede for the better part of a decade. At his best, he was a #7 hitter who was pretty much worthless through the first 6 innings, and then an MVP in the clutch. His defense was always good, but you have to wonder what basically five years of back problems have done to that. He hasn't played anything close to a full season in years; and before he was taking long trips to the DL, he was taking days off due to his creaky back. IMO, he's equally capable of hitting .270 or .240; he could hit 25 HR or 10. He could play 135 games or 25. Personally, I don't want to be depending on that many question marks with Ty Wigginton as the backup.....

Good first post. Welcome. I think Crede would have been a player many here would have come to hate. I had thought Crede was pondering retirement after he broke down in Minnesota last year. He must have doubts on his own ability to produce and stay in the lineup.

This is similar to the one I drew up the other day, but you need to bump Jones up to No. 5 and Scott to No. 6.

If Tejada is batting higher than 7th in the line-up, he's being put there out of deference to a player who no longer exists.

Roberts

Markakis

Wieters

Reimold

Jones

Scott

Tejada

Atkins

Agree about Tejada. I'd switch Wieters and Reimold.

I prefer this lineup as well. Definitely start Wieters 5th to begin the season. Bat Pie 9th when he plays.

Good point. Plus, I think that he'll get plenty of RBI opportunities with this lineup. It will be nice to have a reliable hitter batting 7th.

    • Count me as so one who wants to see this as well.  Suarez looks like something to me.  The bullpen suddenly looks promising.
    • According to the MLB standings, The Red Sox are only 6-12 against teams that are better than .500. Shockingly (I know this is about the AL East), but the maybe the AL East isn't presently the beast it usually is. The Central which has been lousy for a while appears to be much stronger. All but one team are over .500. Big change.
    • Yep, Holliday is still scuffling a bit.  Mayo is going to have to kick down the door for him to push Westburg.  There have got to be teams out there looking to poach Norby.  Can’t imagine he is still here at the deadline.
    • He is one of my favorite guys on the team. So happy for him. He didn’t moan when he got sent down last year.  He was grinding over the winter to get better and is working with someone on the mental side. Just a great story and now a guy that has forced his way into the rotation.
    • He is a great story. We will have to continue to make room for him because he is the 90% outcome for many behind him.
    • I think Cal's record was able to happen because of a time in O's history when there was no strong manager.  I doubt Cal's streak would have made it to one season if he had played his whole season under Weaver.  Weaver was way ahead of his time on matchups, platoons and resting players.  The  bigger thing about Cal's streak, imo was that it was allowed to happen, where it took on a life of it's own, dwarfing the team.  I'm not diminishing the feat, but there's rarely a player that plays 162 games in a year now.  It's just recognized that people wear down and need rest.  I want to say to that probably the 5 players behind Cal on the streak list did things to basically cheat and prolong their streak especially Gehrig, where he would hit once and then not play the rest of the game.
    • Goes right back to Ted Williams. Get a good pitch to hit and drive it.
