When is the time right for Reimold?

Please show me where I wrote him off? I am just saying you are premature in writing him on. His numbers, both last season and this season, are not what you would like from a left fielder. He could very well improve but at this point he has not "solidified" the position.

Pie was on pace to hit about 20 HRs last year and also has a good glove, good arm, brings speed and excitement to the table. I am pretty confident that if Pie were able to get a full, injury free season, he would have 20+ HRs and an OPS right at or around .800. I don't mind that for LF at all.

I do agree, I shouldn't have said he has "solidified" the position, but IMO he is well on his way to solidifying the position, and I don't expect his OPS to remain where it is....

His OPS since the AAA All-star break is close to .900. Maybe the break allowed him to clear his head and reclaim his focus on baseball.

I'd say on merit that he's ready to be called up any time, but right now there's no place to play him. Pie, Bell, Scott and Wigginton are going to play regularly, while Corey Patterson has played very well this year and offers defensive versatility.

Post all-star:

.296/.450/.461/.911

Kid's back.

His OBP has been fantastic all year. We could really use that in the lineup.

Reimold definitely needs to be up in September and playing regularly. At this point it is pretty clear that the start of the season was an aberration. Reimold knows how to hit and could really help out this lineup with his good approach at that plate.

If nothing else, a rejuvinated Reimold makes it that much easier to trade Scott in the right deal.

I'm thinking something like... Scott 1B, Reimold DH, Wiggy gone or super subbing.

If Scott's traded, we need to re-sign Wiggy for full-time 1B or go outside the organization (Dunn!).

edit: guess I'm forgetting the possibility of Brandon Snyder.

No way should the O's head into next season with Ty Wigginton as their projected starting first baseman. Ty is a valuable player as a corner reserve, and having him around as insurance at 3B in case Josh Bell washes out next season makes sense, but his bat isn't enough to carry 1B and he doesn't belong in the middle of the order. The O's have to do better.

Wiggy's not going anywhere this season, but the O's should give Reimold some substantial at bats in Baltimore from here on out, even if it means cutting into Wiggy's playing time. The flip side of Reimold's high recent OBP at Norfolk is that he is being pitched around. It's great that he's showing patience at the plate at Norfolk, but he's not learning anything by being down there if pitchers won't throw him strikes.

I don't think there is any doubt that Reimold will get a September call up. Buck has said that he would like to get a look at him. His numbers say he deserves the promotion. This team is desperate for RH hitting, especially RH hitting with power. If I were Buck, Reimold would play first base everyday from September on to see what he could provide from that spot going forward. If he could hold down first base long term, that would be huge for this team. And I can't see why he couldn't.

Reimold has played a few games at 1B, but I'm pretty sure the scouting reports and the stats indicated that he was pretty awful there. I want Reimold to get plenty of PT in September, but I think it should be at DH. Luke Scott has a better chance of being able to hold down 1B next year.

You may be right. But I can't help but think that this team is looking for an internal solution to first base. Maybe that is Scott. Maybe it could be Reimold. I think one of Jones/Pie is getting traded this offseason for the SS we need. I can't see how that wouldn't be the plan. Reimold's RH power bat is a big part of what this team lacks right now. Maybe he is the LFer going forward, maybe Scott is. The same I would think, could be said for first base. If todays game tells us that Bell is the man at third base, and that is a big "if", this team could be scary good in short order. Reimold needs to get back to Baltimore and show Buck what he has. I'll let Buck decide what position he plays.

    • Ding ding ding. It’s the crab pot mentality. Most will drag you back to the bottom rather than allow others to climb out to freedom. It’s the old misery loves company.   Sadly for my Orioles fans, they have used this misery as a warm blanket and have even rationalized their sorrow by way of linking up with other sorrowful fans. It’s a sort of companionship in misery. Suddenly the orioles start to do well, as if this wasn’t the plan by Elias all along, and many orioles fans are still clinging to their long held beliefs that the shoe will drop, that the end is nigh, and that success will all come crashing down.   After all, failure is what they have grown accustomed to, it’s all they know, their world is an abject failure, so when the team they love suddenly starts doing well…they have no idea what to do. They lash out. They find fault where there is none, and their extreme uncomfort becomes full display to all those who might say “yeah but we’re good now, things are good now” but that simply can not be so. There must be something wrong. The shoe will drop. The loss will happen. My life is not fulfilled without the thumping of the chest from the loser Oriole who proclaims to his tribe, “see, I told you so!” sad sacks of shit, the lot of them!
    • Another MLB player, once a teammate and friend of Ohtani, maybe tied to gambling. I didn't bother to try to understand the exact timeline or tie to Ohtani, which seems to be just as friends, but here it is for anyone interested. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40166891/angels-david-fletcher-bet-bookie
    • Not for someone who has money riding on him winning the award.
    • Well, now that we’ve established the hitting sucks, is it a good time to complain that this pitching is obviously over performing and will crash and burn any day now?
    • The bullpen has much more depth this year than last year but it just feels like you don’t know who will be the guy each night.  Last year it was get to the 8th and you knew it was Cano and Bautista and lights out.  This year it doesn’t seem to be set roles especially with Kimberly strugggles and out as clasper for now possibly.  I also think Hyde gets a lot of grief about how he handles the bullpen but I think he has been great at looking at the game situation and with who he wants facing what guys.  Cano might come in the 6th one night then close the next, same with Webb or even Coulumbe.  I know a lot of it is analytics but as a group they make a plan and seem to stick with it instead of some managers that have 7 inning guy an 8th inning guy and closer and don’t deviate much.
