The Orioles reached agreement with 10 international players on Thursday. Here's the list:

Venezuela

Juan Alvarado, catcher

Fernando Ayala, catcher

Kipper Briendo, shortstop

Jose Sanchez, shortstop

Frank Gonzalez, outfielder

Wamach Males, outfielder

Carlos Mendez, catcher/first baseman

Dominican Republic

Bryan Ciriaco, third baseman

Marcos Estevez, outfielder

Cuba

Romero Reynier, outfielder

Last week, the Orioles signed Cuban first baseman Yaisel Mederos, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound right-handed hitter. He's viewed as being a plus-hitter with plus-power. The Orioles list him as being 25 years old.

As I said in the other thread I am unsure how a 759/701 OPS in the Cuban league translates as plus-hitter with plus-power.

This all looks like deep depth. Throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks.

MLB officials seem to have the Red Sox dead-to-rights on this one. They went down to Boston's academy in the Dominican Republic and interrogated some players in what sounds like an awfully aggressive fashion. And per at least one source of Ben Badler's, at least some portion of the players acknowledged that they had, in fact, signed as part of a "package deal."

Per a previous report from Baseball America, the league is investing Dombrowski’s Red Sox over the franchise’s 2015 international player signings. Focusing on whether or not the club signed multiple Venezuelan players in what is being referred to as “package deals,” the allegations could be considered “circumvention of the leagues international bonus pools.”
