Like the Cardinals against the Pirates earlier today, the Mets could not take advantage of a starting pitcher who had a very high pitch-count, a bad strikes-to-balls ratio, and who issued a lot of free passes (3 walks in only 6 innings.)

For his part, Volquez record 15 out of his 18 outs via the groundball and the strikeout (10 groundouts and 5 strikeouts.)

(vs. TWINS, 4/09)

The Royals were the only team in baseball that did not yet have a home run from their offense this season.

They ended the drought when Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain hit back-to-back round-trippers off of Tommy Milone in the bottom of the 4th inning.

A Royals franchise (1969-Present) record was broken last night.

Danny Duffy struck 16 batters in his 8 innings of work against the D-Rays.

The previous Royals record was 15 strikeouts in a game by Zack Greinke. Greinke struck out 15 batters in 8 innings against the Cleveland Indians on August 25th of 2009.
