It finally happened...

Edsall should really just look for another job at this point. He was a horrible hire in the first place, a complete mismatch for where the school's football program was and needed to go. And now he's alienated everyone - players, students, fans, alums, donors, the media. Nobody decent is going to want to play for him, which makes it almost impossible to pull off the miracle turnaround his supporters seem to expect. He is a sunk cost at this point. KA blew it with the hire - regardless of whether the trustees told him he couldn't hire Leach (which is nuts, he's the AD, not them), there were plenty of better candidates, and that includes Friedgen and Franklin. You have to think about the future at this point. Edsall has zero, ZERO chance of succeeding here. He will NEVER get the benefit of the doubt from anyone currently or prospectively attached to Maryland's football program. He has burned bridges and there is no repairing them. It would take him 5 years or more and he doesn't have that long.

I got the alumni phone call asking for money last night. I said, you want my money? FIRE EDSALL! There was a couple second pause, and she came back as serious as anything and said, that's the 11th time I've heard that tonight.

Ha! One of those might have been me!

Dang it, I promised myself not to get into this again...

All this talk about how much the players hate Edsall is really amazing to me, because I've yet to read a single negative thing about him said by the players.

Our top recruit, Mike Maderas, still seems very excited about coming to MD and playing for Edsall. As far as I know, not a single recruit has decommitted. In fact it seems like MD might have a decent chance a local 5-star Noah Spence.

According to a Sun article, Davin Meggett has said very good things to a recruit about our program.

Even DJ Adams, who I think most would agree actually has a reason to be bitter, doesn't seem so. Now maybe he's just being an ultra-classy guy, who knows.

We've heard one guy, David Mackall, be critical. And all he really said was that accountability wasn't an issue. Interesting quote from a guy who was allegedly late to multiple team meetings.

Also interesting that everyone was all about that Hartford Courant article yesterday, yet no one mentioned the quote from the player that mentioned that Edsall had the respect as the leader of the program.

BTW, I heard the writer of that article give an interview on WNST yesterday. While it's clear he's not a big fan of Edsall's personality, he also mentioned muliple times how Edsall was an organized, bright man, that he was a builder, and that he had no doubt he would build a winner at MD.

Why does no one else mention these things?

I am not saying the players don't hate Edsall. I honestly don't know. I'm just curious, where is the evidence that they do? I am certain that some do, as you always have conflicts during a coaching change. But this stuff that he's lost half the team seems totally unfounded to me.

I guess we'll find out when we see how many guys transfer. So far we've had the 2 obvious ones.

There's major PR damage control going on at CP right now. Super tight leash being imposed on players talking to anyone and I heard they were being threatened about posting anything on their own social media about the team at all.

Again, I'm hearing these things from my 20-year old cousin who has classes with 2 football players, and through alumni and players at Good Counsel right now.

This isn't professional sports, they can't just run to the press and "out" a story, 9/10 times nothing would happen to the coach and he'd cut the player.

You aren't going to see mention of these things because they don't usually get out until after a coach is fired, because these are 18-21 year old kids that they are bullying, and in the end the coach can yank their scholly anytime.

Trust me though, there is some serious unrest on that team. If you were on or around campus, it's the worst kept secret at school.

I am confused - earlier in the thread you said you had talked to guys on the team, here you say your are hearing it from your cousin who has classes with them. Which is it?

I do not mean that to be as accusatory as it sounds, just curious, because obviously you hearing it directly is a heck of a lot more reliable than "your cousin having classes" with them. You are a smart poster, I don't think I need to tell you that that sounds a little silly.

You are correct, I would not expect to hear vocal criticisms from a player still on scholarship. I would, though, expect a few things. I'd expect rumors of more than 2 transfers. I know that it is very soon after the season ended, but if things were as bad as people seem to suggest, I would think guys would be lining up to get out. Maybe guys are waiting until the break. If you do indeed speak with players on the team, what are their intentions (assuming they aren't seniors)?

I'd also expect to at least hear some "anonymous" quotes from some players. This is a pretty hot story in the MD scene right now. Reporters know where these guys hang out - it would not be that hard for a reporter to get a guy to go off the record.

Finally, if some players (I say some because, as I mentioned earlier, the Sun paper's story on a local recruit mentions MD players speaking well of the program) are trying to trash the program at Good Counsel, it doesn't seem to be working. Our top recruit there speaks glowingly of Edsall and the program.

Again, I'm not saying I know the answer here. I'm sure there's unrest - a 2-10 season would create unrest in any locker room. But, like just about everything else regarding this program right now, I feel is it vastly overblown.

We'll find out, I guess.

Do you mean the same top recruit from Good Counsel who just said he had scratched Maryland from his list?

Rumors abound that safety Titus Till is leaving. And, basically, Edsall is going for a full 25-player recruiting class. That would mean there are more transfers/scholarships dropped. Just because you've gone less than a week and only heard of two doesn't mean there won't be more. Just because there hasn't been a cavalcade of news yet, doesn't mean there won't be.

No, I mean Mike Maderas, not Stefon Diggs.

Till leaving would be a dissappointment.

As I mentioned, I am sure there will be more to transfer. There always are when you have regime changes. But if things are truly as bad as everyone wants them to be, I would have expected to hear of more by now.

Back at the beginning of the season I met and talked to someone, he wasn't happy. My cousin and I talked about it on Thanksgiving and he told me the two kids from his chem lab on the football team were flipping out about it and said that "they should have all walked out 2 weeks ago like we planned". Doesn't have to be one way or the other, sometimes it's both. It's not like he was eavesdropping, they were in a group together and talking about it for 3 hours. There was a lot more said, I didn't think I needed to get that into it though, I made my point.

You won't hear rumors of transfers either, unless it's idle speculation, which EVERYTHING you've heard is right now. If there is even a whisper of transfer, coaches pull guys aside and DRILL them on it (or in some cases if they believe it they phase them out of the game plan). The kid I talked to was thinking about transferring, but from what I heard last week, the team thinks there is a real chance that Edsall might be gone next year, so transfer plans are going on hold.

You won't get anon. quotes because media can't get to them. These guys don't really "hang out" they are pretty much confined to living space aside from a little time off for good behavior. In general, you don't see them out and about ever during the season.

It's not that people are "trashing the program" but recruits are asking MD players how things are, and the players aren't lying to try to get them to come to MD. It's trashing a program if you are lying or stretching the truth, it's giving the nasty side of reality when you are being honest. Any recruit considering MD HAS to speak glowingly about a program or they will no longer have the option, those options are what gets them to the better schools they really want to go to.

You are right, in the end it's gotta be wait and see, but the smart money is looking like a revolt of current players, and the worst recruiting class in YEARS.

Chem lab and football team? Must be kickers.

These kids obviously aren't very bright if they think there's a real chance Edsall won't be around next year. The only way Edsall is gone is if he's surfing porn on the office computer, or if he leaves to take a bigger job.

The school is facing a money hole like they never have. The football and basketball programs aren't bringing in the money like they should be to help balance things out. That means that the only two ways they are getting out of it is to generate more revenue, which a losing team is not going to do with receipts from the gate, and the other form of income, being donations from alumni and boosters is being frozen because they are unhappy about the coach.

I personally doubt it happens, but I've seen weirder things happen, and money talks. Not as impossible as you think.

But are the big money donors willing to come up with $10 million (the remainder of Edsall's contract) just to cover for Kevin Anderson's gaffe? And as I asked before, how do they know he won't just screw up again with the next hire? I think maybe they ought to try to come up with a little bit more money for a new AD as well.

The students or someone at the university should really be focusing on a way to set Edsall up for something. It can;t be that hard to sneak into his office and look up porn on his computer can it.:leaving:
