No, it wasn't.

It was in 2011. I remember watching it.

That's what I get for going off memory. I was thinking of the Braves game but forgot he had given up 2 runs in that game. Your memory is better than mine, obviously. I knew Bergy stunk it up after 2009 so I didn't think it could have been 2011.

Damn, I can't believe that Chris Waters game was 8 years ago already. Exhibit A in a team not being familiar with a pitcher. Exhibit B was Mike Wright last year.

Actually, the Waters game that you are probably thinking of was not a complete-game shutout.

That was 8 innings of shutout ball against the Angels, in California. It was Waters' career MLB debut. Georgie-Boy Sherrill came in and finished that game for his 31st save of the season.

Waters actually pitched a complete game-shutout IN ADDITION to that surprising and amazing game that he tossed in his career MLB debut ...... one month later, against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

OK, the Orioles still have not had a complete-game shutout since Miguel Gonzalez hurled one against the Reds on September 3rd of 2014.

In fact, prior to today, they had not even had A COMPLETE GAME OF ANY KIND since that day 2 years ago !!!

As was discussed earlier in the thread, complete games and shutouts are extremely rare these days.

How rare ???

Last year, the Orioles were tied for 8th out of 15 teams in the American League in complete-game shutouts ........ and they didn't have any !!!

This year, with season winding down, the Orioles are tied for 4th in the American League in complete-game shutouts ........ and they don't have any.

In any case, congratulations to Ubaldo Jimenez for attaining the Orioles' first complete game of any kind since September of 2014 ...... even though it wasn't a shutout.

Happy birthday, Brad Bergesen.

You were nice enough to introduce yourself to me when I was allowed onto the field for batting practice in August of 2011.
