5 games up, with 48 games left to play.

Let's go, Orioles.

That's a strong position to be in. We didn't put the Blue Jays away in this series, but they missed an important opportunity to gain ground head to head, and in fact, lost ground. In their ballpark. The Jays have to come away prett disappointed.

And they now have three fewer games to make up that ground. The game clock is starting to get in the O's favor.

BTW, today we saw a perfect example of how the O's can "steal" a game or two in a playoff series. The offense was pretty bad, but they got a multi-run HR, got a solid 6 innings from a starter who worked around some trouble, and then made it a 6 inning game with three shutdown innings from Miller-O'Day-Britton. DO NOT discount this team's chances in October.

You are exactly right about this.

Right. This is the formula. 6 great innings out of a rested starter becomes a 6 inning game for the other team with Miller/O'Day/Britton; add a 2 or 3 run homer and stir. The home run is a much bigger weapon in a low scoring game. We have a very big singular advantage over most of the other playoff teams in this regard. Even CD hitting under .200 has 19 dingers (on a pace for 25). We can win a low scoring game with one swing. That gives us the proverbial sluggers chance in any playoff game. It also makes the Andrew Miller acquisition all the more notable, in shortening the game to 6 innings.

Outside of getting an ace, it was the best type of acquisition they could have made.

Though, I'll add one more ingredient to your formula above: mental toughness. It's been six weeks since this team lost back-to-back games. They have short memories.

Many believe we won't be able to sustain our success. I for one have no reason to believe otherwise and I think we will continue to separate.

The one thing that has been consistent all year has been our inter-division record, and I believe will hold up for the rest of the season.

Right. And our record in 1 run games over that time has been incredible ... another sign of mental toughness. These guys really do feed off of Buck it seems. No ****. No nonsense. Keep your head down and go about your business. This year we are the best team in the AL East and we should win it. We just need to stay focused and tend to our business and this is Buck's strength and this team seems to be feeding off of that influence.
