Cool we can be the Rays win every year and never win it all.

But didn't you just say earlier that we ran into a lucky Royals team, and that team was one hit away from winning it all? I agree with you on that. But we were in the final 4, so that's how close we were. It's not like we traded for 2 Aces at the deadline and lost in the play in game, and had to blowup our roster the next year.

Which one would you want to pay market value for?

Davis would be the only one if he can have a bounce back year. Cause if he walks where does the power come from? Jones can't do it all.

Would you have supported trading Davis after 2013?

That's a loaded question. If the G.M knew there is no way he can sign him when he hit's free agency. Yes i trade him.

Yes...but only in the right deal.

I know that Stotle had an article last offseason that proposed Davis for Laroche/Rendon/others that I very much would have done. Of course, it may not have been realistic at the time, and there may have been others from the Orioles side of things involved, but a LaRoche/Rendon tandem would have been the big piece of it.

That's the type of deal I would have done.

Without the willingness to lock up their studs who require 100 mil contracts. The Giants fill their team with guys like that after locking up their key pieces. The only guy we even remotely did that for was Jones' date=' who got 85 mil. Watch Wieters, Davis, Chen and Norris walk, because we won't pay market value for them.[/quote']

This is really silly. They re-signed Hardy. They have long-term solutions at 3B and 2B. They have near MLB-ready options in Alvarez and Walker, not to mention an over-performer in Yaz who could at least be a cheap 4th outfielder. You don't need a star at every position. Next year, we have legitimate All-Star contenders at SS, 3B, CF and catcher. Davis is a wildcard at 1B. We have viable options for at least one of the corner positions with DeAza/Pearce/Lough. So we need to find a league average option for one corner outfielder and a DH. Duquette has proven capable of finding that type of player.

Player acquisitions are exciting. But, the angst over this week is childish, much like a kid wanting to open his Christmas presents early and are never happy with the presents that they get - like three straight winning seasons with two playoff appearances and one division title. Wah...

I would have liked Detwiler. Always thought he was underrated.

Wonder why Neal Cotts name hasn't came up this winter. With the trade the Rangers just made no need for them to sign him.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Rangers?src=hash">#Rangers</a> plan to use Detwiler as a starting pitcher. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/nationals?src=hash">#nationals</a></p>— Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) <a href="

OK i take that back.

I get we aren't going all in on big names, but there are plenty of smaller moves that would help stabilize the team that DD is missing out on, guys like Bastardo, etc.So I know some of the it's only December 11 crowd can use that all they want but there have been some opportunities that are being missed.

After next year the only stars on this team will be Jones and Manny.

    • While I agree and find your comment funny, maybe just say something along the line of”Don’t give up on this team” or “Quite being Debbie downers” instead of assuming they are projecting the own misery in their lives. People might take it better if it doesn’t feel like a personal attack. Either way, that win felt good and I HOPE this is finally the turning point going into the playoffs soon.
    • I've made it clear that if they don't sign Santa and Burnes I'm ok with it as long as the money is allocated to other players they feel that fits their profile better .You know you have people on here like SG who only hears what he wants to hear. I need to learn to ignore that guy.
    • Oh mr know it all. Who most times is wrong. Lol
    • I also think Santander will age better than Trumbo, despite my repeated comparisons of the two players. But I don't know that he will age better than Trumbo and all of the other one dimensional sluggers who were enjoying the retired millionaire sports star lifestyle by their mid-30s, and I don't want the Orioles to be on the hook when the world finds out in 2 or 3 years. Re-signing Santander to a 4 year, $80 million dollar deal is something the DD/PA regime would have done. Hopefully the ME/DR regime is smarter than that (and I think they are). 22nd percentile is really bad, man. And it's unlikely to improve in his 30s.
    • Looks like Baseball Fandom was at the game today!
    • But that is not what you said. You said he’s a bad fielder, just not quite Trumbo-tier. Thus, you were stating he is close to as bad a fielder as Trumbo was, which is not correct. Generally speaking, no player makes up the loss of offensive value with defensive value as the age. It is usually one of the first things to go. I was not making any sort of argument that he was going to make up declining offense with defense, just pointing out that you made a preposterous statement.
    • At least relative to the rest of the league Santander has an interesting profile because he is comfortably above-average at making contact; his whiff rates are much better than Trumbo's so he's not really as much of a TTO player as you would think.  This gives him hope that he will age a little bit better than someone like Trumbo.  Though he's still got a good shot of being out of the league in 3 years.
