It's actually a pretty interesting situation. He signed with the Padres on June 13 which means he can't be traded to the Nationals until June 13, 2015. He will be in PTBNL "limbo" so to speak for the next 6 months (which is also the maximum amount of time that a PTBNL can be in question). He will actually continue to play in the Padres organization until June 13 at which point he will officially be traded.

Wow, how the mighty have fallen. I remember Red Sox fans swearing that Middlebrooks would be better than Machado, and two years later he is traded for a 34 year-old catcher who has never started 100 games in a season.
