Melewski/Merullo on 20 year old catcher Jonah Heim

"It all depends on his bat because he's a special defender," Merullo said. "He throws guys out you are not supposed to throw out. You see a good runner get a good jump on a guy with just an OK time to the plate and he threw the guy out."

Heim is expected to move to full-season ball this year and has a good chance to head north in April as the starting catcher for SIngle-A Delmarva.

Jonah sounds awesome. Great news.

So when does the minicamp actually start? Great to hear Doc will be reporting in.
The minicamp will provide a nice distraction from all the rumors and speculation that define the hot stove season. And it's sort of like watching baseball. Pitchers will throw on the side and players will take batting practice.

Factor in the clubhouse interviews and daily sessions with manager Buck Showalter, and it's going to have a spring feel to it. Or maybe that's just the 80 degree temperatures.

I'm feeling very optimistic about the O's today. Can't wait to hear about Bundy in mini camp. I think he's going to have a big year. He's gone through a lot over the past two years. A major injury, the loss of his mom. Hopefully he's now had enough time to put those things behind him.

...minicamp runs from Jan. 11-14 at the Ed Smith Stadium complex. It was previously held at Camden Yards until Showalter moved it to Sarasota last winter...
Here we go. Roch.

I did not know that Roch was going.

His column today sounded like (to me) that he is heading down. Couple quotes:

It will be good to watch Dylan Bundy throw. It's always good to watch Dylan Bundy throw.

I haven't seen left-hander Brian Gonzalez, the Orioles' first pick (in the third round) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. Now I've got my opportunity.

I'll also have a chance to meet new hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh. I've heard a lot of good things about him.
