And I gather that many offensive players all can fall of trees:

[today's lineup]

Manny Machado - 3B -- drafted by O's

Gerardo Parra - RF -- recent trade for minor league pitcher

Adam Jones - CF -- came with Tillman and others for Erik Bedard

Chris Davis - 1B -- came in trade with Rangers

Matt Wieters - DH -- drafted by O's

Jonathan Schoop - 2B -- signed by O's as free agent in 2008

Junior Lake - LF -- traded for reliever Tommy Hunter

J.J. Hardy - SS -- Traded to the Orioles from the Twins

Caleb Joseph - C -- drafted by Orioles

Machado- Not failed top draft pick

Parra- Two month rental that cost O's MLB ready pitcher

Jones- Cornerstone of trade for very talented pitcher.

Davis- Trade for elite relief pitcher (good deal eh?)

Wieters- Not failed top draft pick

Schoop- International player

Lake- Fell off a tree

Hardy- Complete fleece job of a trade. Totally fell into the O's laps, not going to argue this one.

Joseph- Lucky hit due to minor league development.

Yea that doesn't look like the bullpen list at all.

Junior Lake - On February 13, 2007, he was signed as an amateur free agent. He started playing for the DSL Cubs at the age of 17.

He can replace Matusz.

I would certainly let O'Day and Matusz walk.

I would consider trading Britton for the right return.

I wouldn't cry if any of the rest were not on the roster next year.

I hate to repeat myself but folks don't seem to listen.

I would make a practice of using 4-6 round picks on college pitchers and developing them as relievers.[/QUOTE]

Sound.

I didn't say that Machado and/or Wieter were failed draft picks.

Did you watch Roe pitch? That wasn't just a bad day. That was a guy in over his head.

Really? How exactly do you make that distinction?

I did watch him pitch, and I saw a guy making bad pitches. There could've been any number of reasons for that (most likely, he was pitching injured, since he went on the DL the next day). If you were able to look into his mind and conclude that he was in over his head, then that's quite a super power you've got.

o

(vs. D-RAYS, 9/02)

Not a bad outing for Roe tonight.

He came in with the bases loaded, one out, and 4 runs already in.

He got out of that jam, then got 4 more outs before ceding a single and a walk.

At that point, his buddy Boian Matusz picked him up.
