Going into this series, the Orioles are 26-30, and the Red Sox are 27-31, in a virtual tie for last place in the AL East. Both teams have been somewhat disappointing compared to expectations. The Red Sox come in riding a three-game winning streak

Rodriguez (2-0, 0.61 ERA) vs. Gonzalez (5-4, 3.54 ERA) -- Clearly the feature game of the series due to the trade that sent EdRod to Boston. Everyone knows how good he was in his first two starts, and how well he has done in the minors after the trade. For his part, Miguel Gonzalez has been steady at the helm, so there's ever reason to anticipate a pitcher's duel here.

Porcello (4-5, 5.01 ERA) vs. Chen (1-4, 3.18 ERA) -- Porcello has been disappointing but had a strong outing his last time out. Chen has been very steady and incredibly unlucky with run support and bullpen support. On its face, advantage O's in this game.

Miley (5-5, 4.67 ERA ) vs. Tilman (3-7, 5.61 ERA) -- Miley got clobbered in a few early starts (including a 2.1 IP, 6 ER loss to the Orioles) but has steadied the ship since then. Tillman has alternated decent and horrible starts. We need Chris to step up in this one.

Both teams have been disappointing on offense, with the Orioles ranking 10th in runs scored and the Red Sox ranking 12th. For the Sox, Hanley Ramirez has been OK on offense, but a disaster in LF, while Pablo Sandoval has been a huge disappointment. David Ortiz looks as if Father Time may finally have caught up to him. The O's have been very cold with the bats for the last 5+ weeks.

Both teams started the year pitching horribly. The O's rank 10th in ERA, the Sox 13th. Both team have done better lately, though the Sox were bad for most of May as well as April.

Overall, this series looks pretty even on paper, and it is a series we need to win to start making some headway in our division.

Had to be a little nerve wracking. Manny just didn't put enough in the throw. If we can get Tillman going look out. We are clicking right now, want at least 2 vs the Yanks.

Their pitching was as advertised as far as mediocrity. Minus E-Rod who was stellar and showed great guts. He looks like he may have a very bright future, but he'll at least probably have a bright couple of months.
