Delmon not doing it in RF

At least Snider can play a position. Reimold makes Delmon completely expendable.

Pearce and Reimold vs LHP, Snider and Paredes vs RHP. I don't see where Delmon fits in any more.

A few weeks ago a lot of people here would have deemed Snider a defensive misfit. Reimold as well.

I still don't get why he plays so far over in the gap. Tonight another simple single was a standup double because it took Delmon so long to get back over to right field to, you know, field the ball. I don't get it. It's been a season-long problem.

Talk to 1B coach Wayne Kirby. On defense, he positions the outfielders....at the beginning of ABs, and often repositions the OFers during ABs. Delmond plays where he's positioned by Kirby.

I did actually question Kirby on this very point a few weeks ago. I just spaced and didn't get his name in the post tonight. Yes, it is clearly Kirby's responsibility as well.

What year was it? Maybe he was.
If you're really curious you can look it up as easily as me. But that year he was worth 20 RS at 3B and I cant see Earl ever benching Brooks, especially when he was on his way yo hitting .272 .341 .413 with 20 HR and 92 RBI

After watching Orioles baseball for more than 50 years, my eyes are not what they used to be. I'm guessing your suck, too.

Speak for yourself but mine are the best at age 60 they have ever been in my life right now. I had cataract (laser) surgery in each eye last year and now have 20-15 in left eye and 20-20 in right without glasses or contacts.

I think I saw an interview of Kirby about positioning and about Young in particular and he said he had him playing the gap because he is probably the fastest player on the team in pure speed. I know this seems questionable as I would say he is second by a mile to Lough (and now Reimold, who wasn't on the team when Kitby said it) but Kirby said young has won bets racing other guys on the team and now nobody will race him anymore!

I think Pearce and Reimold should be the primary starters right now - but when Schoop gets back I expect Flaherty to get some time in the OF. Dude is hitting really well right now.

Flaherty is overdue to go into a slump any time. He has established himself as not much of a hitter. He especially looks awful against LH pitching.

I'm fine with Delmon in right field. He's certainly exceeded my expectations so far. I like the team's offensive balance right now. Having Young and Reimold gives Buck a lot of options against lefties.

How has he exceeded your expectations? Were you expecting a .600 OPS with even worse defense?

After watching the statues that are playing OF for the Yankees, I can't get on Delmon too much for his ability out there. At least if a ball gets by him, he can get to it in a timely manner and make a strong accurate throw.

    • I'm a big fan.  It doesn't mean I have sources in the clubhouse. Do we have any idea who her sources are?  Does she have any kind of track record of having reliable sources?
    • I don't know who this woman is and I don't do Twitter. And this is what I touched on in the other thread: I don't know what the best path forward is b/c I don't know exactly what the problem is. I don't think Hyde needs to go, but if this is true- and I have no idea if it is or not- he should be gone. The talk of veteran leaders brings questions.  What was insufficient of the leadership of Satandaner, Mullins, Burnes, and Kimbrel?
    • Sig for me is notably rigorous trying to combat this.    I feel pretty sure he had a say in crafting his very geeky title, a reflection of his personal brand. We'll see how it goes here if it becomes recommending Adam Frazier and Kyle Gibson as correct for the roster once again.
    • Again, I'm not sure what the point of contention is. They won 91 games and lost in the Wildcard round.  That puts them smack in the middle of what I forecast as their most likely outcome, though I did hope for more playoff success.  I'm not sure how that is proof I misevaluated anything. Further, again, lecturing me about the importance of depth, when I'm one of the biggest hoarders on this board, and you're one of the biggest opposite of that, is ironic to say the least.
    • Aaron Judge whined about it so I’m a fan.  The older I get, the more I think people just exist to look for confirmation biases. In all avenues of life. Paul Simon wrote “a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.” I’m sure if we beat the Royals and advanced and Walltimore robbed three or four homers from the Royals, we’d be extolling its virtues and how great it is.    But that didn’t happen. If anything, there were a couple instances where, if anything, it worked against us.    So here we are.
    • I mean I wouldn’t be concerned about her opinions on which FA to sign or which players are best. But, she’s definitely a big fan and is just passing off info given to her. If it didn’t track into some other things that make sense, I wouldn’t pay it much mind. Of course, someone with an agenda could’ve just told her those things to spread rumors. Maybe Rick Dempsey haha.
    • Do you think any team is too stupid to account for home park dimensions when evaluating pitchers?
