Duquette talks (Orioles to spend extensive resources in FA)

Is it necessary to make this response every time a player with a QO attached is brought up? I think you've gotten your point across the first 50 times. I am not trying to be hostile, but I've never seen someone belabor the exact same point so many times.

Also I know you are aware of who costs our very valuable picks if we sign them to free agent contracts for every penny that they could ever be worth. But not everyone is aware. I think two of the last five folks I responded in that manner to thanked and and said they were not interested. In fact today, some folks were concerned about our first round picks becoming second round picks because of protection. Of course you know that that was an old FA plan that has not been around for years.

I want to see a good winning Orioles team. I also want to rebuild our farm.

I think whether you are willing to give up a pick depends on the quality of the player and length of the deal. I'm not ready to give up a pick for, say, Dexter Fowler. For Jason Heyward, I'd do it. But maybe we're better off chasing Cespedes, who doesn't cost a pick.

I know that several people believe that we should give up that pick for Heyward or for Grienke. I'd rather seek alternatives that don't.

It may not be possible to do those things simultaneously if we refuse to part with any picks.

Then I will take the picks and hope for the best. We scrubbed off when we bought Ubaldo and Cruz. We need to bite the bullet on these picks. We already lost Matt's pick.

I agree. With picks and with money spent. I don't want us to overpay some of these 2nd tier guys. If we can't get one of the big boys then try and piece together a team with short term commitments. This team has talent. It just needs to supplement that with the right pieces. If we lose Davis, it's not like we have to sign a big time player or we are done. We went to the ALCS and won the AL East in 2014 and look at what Davis did. Had a terrible year and got suspended 50 games. We can win without him.

But we can't win without him, the current rotation, a LF, a RF.

A good starter and Nelson Cruz and we are 2014.

Good for him. I had read about this a month or so ago, so I hope he sticks with it.

I wish him success, and hope he servers as an inspiration to others.

But he ain't coming to this horse**** town.

    • Not for someone who has money riding on him winning the award.
    • Well, now that we’ve established the hitting sucks, is it a good time to complain that this pitching is obviously over performing and will crash and burn any day now?
    • The bullpen has much more depth this year than last year but it just feels like you don’t know who will be the guy each night.  Last year it was get to the 8th and you knew it was Cano and Bautista and lights out.  This year it doesn’t seem to be set roles especially with Kimberly strugggles and out as clasper for now possibly.  I also think Hyde gets a lot of grief about how he handles the bullpen but I think he has been great at looking at the game situation and with who he wants facing what guys.  Cano might come in the 6th one night then close the next, same with Webb or even Coulumbe.  I know a lot of it is analytics but as a group they make a plan and seem to stick with it instead of some managers that have 7 inning guy an 8th inning guy and closer and don’t deviate much.
    • On the replay you can see that Julio was lightly jogging after the ball-- either assuming the RF would get it, or assuming Hays wouldn't run. Good on Hays for taking advantage and turning it into a double.
    • I think in general people are more negative in life not just in sports and they need to blame someone or something.  In previous years we had a scapegoat in Peter and John.  Elias didn’t go out and make a trade it was because he didn’t have the money to go get anyone or the owner didn’t want to spend.  Now for the most part people seem to think new ownership will give the ok to spend more so now if we don’t do it it is on Elias, Sig, and Hyde for not getting best out of the players.  We dint make a big trade last year and most people just went with well John is cheap we don’t do what they want now it will fall on Elias more then last year in peoples eyes imo.
