There are maybe five pitchers in baseball who average 7 innings per start.

Kershaw 7

Arrieta 6.9

Scherzer 6.9

Lackey 6.6

Dickey 6.48

Those are some of the top innings guys with the most starts.

I hope we aren't talking guys with 16 starts for comparison.

14 player pitched 200 or more innings year. 8 had winning records. I'm not that interested in 200 innings as much as innings per start.

Tillman started 31 games last year. But averaged 5.58 innings a start. That's terrible. I'd rather see a pitcher intentionally miss a turn in the rotation every month and go more than 7 inning per start.

Ubaldo made 32 starts and average 5.75 innings per start, again, that's bad.

When your most reliable starters can't be relied upon to pitch 7 innings, or even past 6, you have a problem.

Who are these guys and how many starts do they make. If you have Tillman and Jimenez giving you 180 innings and your 7 inning guy only makes 20 starts, you need to add 40 innings to your bullpen or rely on your sixth starter for a dozen starts.

In the AL, you mean? In terms of individual IP last year, the first Oriole who appears on the list is Chen at #35. Next is Ubaldo at #48 (Gallardo was #46).

As for total IP by starters, the O's were 22nd in MLB last year.
