Jim Henneman: Orioles' Remaining Schedule More Favorable Than Fans Think

Plus, the toughest travel will be finished after their current six-week stretch. For instance, the Orioles will not play a game out of the Eastern Time Zone for the last six weeks; they will have no trips longer than two hours; they have 25 home games in five weeks leading up to the final six games in Toronto (three) and New York (three).

I would not be surprised to see either the Red Sox or Blue Jays, perhaps even both, pass the Orioles before the middle of August. In fact, I would go so far as to say if those teams haven't done so by then (keep in mind, the trade deadline also comes into play), it will be too late. By then, the Orioles will have all three West Coast trips in the rear view mirror while the Red Sox and Blue Jays will each have one.

In addition, and this might be grossly overlooked because of their home-heavy July schedule, the Red Sox face a brutal finishing schedule during the last two months. It's almost gone unnoticed, but as of June 26, except for the Orioles, the Red Sox have played more home games than any other team in the division.

With 18 home games in July, the Red Sox turn into road warriors. Of their last 63 games, the Red Sox will play an astounding 41, about 65 percent, away from home. As an added bonus from the so-called "schedule from hell," the Red Sox host the Blue Jays for three games on the last weekend of the season, while the Orioles, who play three times in Toronto that week, are finishing up with three at Yankee Stadium.

Great points by Henneman here. If we can hold our own on the road over the next six weeks, we'll be in a great position.

Our pitching is going to look a lot better over the next month. We don't play a good offense again until the Jays in a month.

SD 18th in runs scored

SEA 7th

LAD 19th

LAA 17th

TB 24th

NYY 22nd

CLEV 8th

COL 2nd

MIN 27th

This should give us a pretty fair assessment of where our SP stands by the trade deadline. Plus we'll be getting O'day back here soon. Road games probably help the SP and hurt the home runs. Our Road record isn't great but we've played @BOS, @TOR, @TEX, @Clev, @Hou, @KC.

We've only played a few games on the road against the crappy AL teams Min, TB, LAA. All things considered, we are hanging tough on the road. These upcoming games don't scare me.

Sooooo do you have to be the best in the league to be considered a "good offense"?

The Orioles may be facing a tough stretch of road games, but Jim Henneman says the schedule could actually work in the Orioles' favor as compared to their AL East rivals.
