Orioles Officially sign Catcher Welington Castillo

Yeah, I may be one of only a few but I hope your right. MW is a much better Catcher than Castillo, IMO. But I do want some change. I want them to let Trumbo go and get the draft pick. I would like to see Kim and Mancini split the DH duties. I want a much faster and better defensive OF.

In a vacuum, I prefer Wieters to Castillo, as well, but I'm guessing that the salary difference will be substantial, and the Orioles could likely improve their team more by using that cost difference elsewhere.

I'd like to see them move away from Wieters. His pitch framing is consistently poor and I think they should be focusing on getting a placeholder who can split duties with Joseph.

I'm not Craw but I'd go for Castillo. He's a solid veteran with flaws and plusses. He'll do for 2 or even 3 years. If Sisco forces his way up Welington is gravy to trade.

Maybe that lack of an extra year or being just a filler until Sisco comes up so he can be trade bait is what Welington has...

I wouldn't be surprised if the next Castillo update that we get is him signing with another team.  Someone nailed it pages ago when they said that time kills deals.  This deal has been going on way too long for a C we're trying to get on a relatively small deal.

I don't see the urgency, we still have Avilla, Soto, Hundley, Ianetta, Suzuki,  Salty, and Wieters as options.

Yeah - Wel wanted more than we offered.  I still think they will overpay for Wiety and keep core intact.  Whatevs!
