These guys need a forced day or a couple days off apparently because they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn right now, if they decided to even swing...

Have you gone crazy living in red sux land?:eektf:

Do NOT pick on My NICK M:002_sdrool:or My Perfect One:hearts:!!!

We do? So you've gone over to Doc Brown's house and taken the DeLorean for a spin? There are some things here that just don't look good. We hope they can come out of it, but you don't really know. Markakis is not hitting XBHs and although he is walking, he's striking out a ton. Part of that reason is no protection in the lineup I'm sure but his eye seems to be off as well. Roberts is not getting on base or hitting for average right now and April and May are supposed to be his hottest months.

There's reason for concern here, just because you can't see it or refuse to see it, doesn't mean that those who do are little girls or pants wetting toddlers. Maybe you should be benched for an attitude adjustment to posters whose opinions and ideas clash with your own...

Keep reminding yourself that offense is down in the American League this year.

Markakis' current OPS+ of 122 would be a career high for him. Brian Roberts OPS+ of 112 would be the exact same OPS+ that he had last year, and his second highest of his career.

Markakis and Roberts are doing quite well in comparison to the rest of the league this year.

The Orioles are allowing 4.17 runs/game this year. That's 6th in the AL. In 2007 that would have trailed only the Red Sox. The average OPS in the league is down 30-some points. Runs are down over 10%. 89 runs scored in 2008 have been as valuable as 100 runs scored in 2007.

Looks like Trembley agreed with me after all...

Lets see if riding the pine for a game will help refocus these two a little. Kudos to Trembley for making the call...

I'm sorry but Markakis has been so bad lately he is entering Jay Gibbons territory. He needs to be moved down in the order. I think they should move Jones to the 3 hole and see how he responds and drop Nick to the 6th spot. Just for instance he grounds into a double play with no outs and then Huff hits a solo shot, which would have been two runs if not for Markakis' DP.

The recent string of completely dreadful offensive performances can almost entirely be blamed on Markakis. He is bringing down the club more than Luis Hernandez brought down the club when he was in the lineup. Some type of change needs to be made with Markakis to try and see if he can kick this slump he's in.

I didn't realize JTrea had an alias.:) Please think before you post and if you did think before this one, I'd stop if I were you. Seriously, JTrea is the most overreactionary person I've ever encountered, the not posting 12 hours after a game idea by SG is pretty good. I'd extend it to at all times but that's just me.

Markakis on Sunday: 0-4, K, GIDP.

To paraphrase the legendary stand-up philosopher Ron White, the next time you have a [reactionary, extreme, unneeded] thought, let it go.

Jones in the three hole??? Surely you cant be serious:scratchchinhmm:. I think you are disrespecting Nick. I think Nick has proven he can hit in the middle of the order over the past few years. Jones may be there soon also but certainly not yet. What we really need to understand is the O's are lucky that they have hung around this long. We all knew they didn't have enough offense when the season started. If not for the strong pitching up to this point we might well be buried already. Unless AM is ready to go get some bats (at least 2 & 1 being a clean up hitter) I'd say the season is only going to get harder for the I need it now fans.

I beleive that the day off on Saturday was good for Roberts and Markakis. At least they looked great today. Of course Saturday was a bad time to sit both of them along with Hernandez since Trachsel was pitching. We would need all the offense that we could get to nullify his awful pitching. He should have been the one benched on Saturday and for the remainder of the season.

Give Markakis time since he is a proven hitter. Right now I think that he is pressing too much since we are not going to have a high powered offense this year. The O's will need to fight and scratch for all of the runs that they will get. At least our pitching has been decent and better if we get rid of Trachsel. We as O's fans need to look at the positives with this team and so far there have been more than expected.

    • Yeah, I agree something like this might happen some day, but only if the union comes around to believing MLB is on shaky financial footing -- if and when that ever happens. I don't like the idea of voiding a players' contract then and there, but perhaps performing below a certain level would trigger some contract years in the future to automatically become option years.  Something along those lines. It's hard to imagine deals like this today, except possibly here and there for players who are known to be very inconsistent.  As long as baseball is considered financially healthy I'm sure the union would push back strongly against deals like this, especially in large numbers.
    • Thank you. I knew there was something bogus about that post. I saw Cal play SS. And Gunnar is no Cal at SS. Not even close. And this is coming from a big fan of Gunnar. I would like to see him play a traditional power position. Call me old fashioned. He’s hurting the team at SS.
    • Interesting.  We live in a data obsessed world now but it's not the answer to everything.  There should be a mix.
    • Tobias Myers for the brewers tonight: 6 innings 4H -1ER 1BB 11 Ks. not bad at all!
    • I doubt solid MLB pitchers can be acquired just by trading position players the vast majority of the time.  Look at how we acquired Bradish and Povich -- by trading solid (at the time anyway) MLB level pitchers.  In those trades we were on the other end, but we forced teams to trade good young pitchers for Bundy and Lopez respectively.  Now we did acquire McDermott and Seth Johnson by trading Trey Mancini.  So it does happen that pitching can sometimes be acquired trading only a position player, but Mancini had had a strong major league career to that point.  My point is I don't think you can expect to acquire pitching only by trading position players -- but if you can it may need to be a strong veteran that is not easy to part with. Perhaps we could acquire Tarik Skubal for just Jackson Holliday -- or Holliday plus one or two other strong position prospects.  But that would be a whole other level of a blockbuster trade. Also, I'm not sure how we can say the system is bereft of homegrown minor league pitching talent and then complain that we traded Baumeister and Chace -- two homegrown minor league pitchers that everyone here seems to agree are talented.  We can criticize the trade, but clearly there was and probably still are some desirable arms in the system that we'd rather not trade.  No, none of the ones Elias drafted have made it to the bigs yet, but maybe those two would have been among the first.
    • Seth Johnson on the Phillies' "philosophy": Orioles are data driven, Phillies are more "old school". I don't get much out of this but it's a data point. https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/mlb/philadelphia-phillies/seth-johnson-mlb-debut-phillies-orioles-trade/613582/ “I think the big thing is that Baltimore is very data-based,” he said. “Here’s a nice blend of the numbers and baseball strategy. Kind of old school. And I’ve been really enjoying it so far. For me, it’s kind of simplified everything. Concentrating on basic concepts like moving the fastball around. Not worrying about pitch shapes all the time. Just going out here and trying to pitch.”
    • If we have room, why wouldn't we add Pham and Van Loon just to have available depth in AAA (whether or not they are at risk of being taken)?
