Maybe it's already been answered, but why was this guy available from Philly?  Was there a 40-man crunch?  It seems like this is the type of pitcher that would make sense for them to hold onto.  He isn't arb-eligible until 2020 and FA-eligible until 2023.  As far as prospect status, he wasn't a top guy.  Seems like he was just outside of Texas's top-10 in 2013 and 2014.  Seems like he dropped off the map a bit ranking-wise after that.  He was still viewed as a potential back-of-the-rotation starter as of the Phillies deal, though:

He failed a drug test last June, which didn't exactly endear him to the organization.

It's pick ups like this that makes Dan the King of Smoke and MIrrors. He might be ordinary at best in the offseason, but he also one of the best in-season GM's in baseball on a consistent basis.

Asher should be in the rotation, but he could be just as valuable in a 6/7th inning role.

Great outing by Asher this afternoon. What I liked most of all was that although he gave up 5 singles in 3-1/3 innings, he walked nobody.
