When do the O's fish or cut bait with Duquette and Showalter?

Brady is the guy.  He's PA's boy.  Seems like it is a power struggle.  Buck v. DD v. Brady/PA

Brady would probably want to bring in his own people.  As long as Buck is around that isn't going to happen.  But I bet Brady would give a look at Palmeiro as hitting coach.

I like Brady. He seems like a smart guy. Everyone seems to speak highly of him.

But other than his conditioning/strength work with players, I have no idea what he does as VP of baseball operations. What are his experience and accomplishments with the Orioles that make him a good candidate to replace Duquette?

Given the current state of things, I would think it makes more sense to bring in someone from outside the organization, though I have no idea who would take the job.

Olsen Twins brother?

Dempsey is usually good for entertainment on an otherwise miserable day.

Maybe Dan spent those absent hours while Rizzo was left alone to make the rainout call by himself looking for Toronto condos? Seems dubious.

There are only 30 of these jobs. Angelos would have no trouble finding an up and coming star. Who is Houston's assistant GM? Cleveland? Washington?

I disagree. He failed miserably at this in the last search. Duquette was the fallback and he was desperate for a job. A lot of people do not want to work for Angelos.

P.s.  I also think a lot of GM candidates would be leery of Buck staying as manager. He seems much more involved in player personnel moves than most managers. I'm a fan of Buck, but I could see a new GM wanting to be independent of a strong, senior manager like Buck.

Is Mcdowell really the problem?

"Atlanta ranked no lower than fourth in the NL in ERA during seven of McDowell's seasons, and led the league in 2013. But after deciding to rebuild, the Braves ranked 13th in 2015 and 11th this past season with a 4.51 ERA."

So 7/9 years in Atlanta he had top 4 pitching staffs in the NL.   The obvious answer is that we have a lack of talent.  Tillman is hurt.  Gausman has just lost it.  Ubaldo has been terrible for 80% of his time here.  Asher is better suited for the pen.  Everyone is getting rocked in AAA.  What to do?

After this week, I am finally coming around to the reality that we need to clean house with the entire organization and sell off our assets.

Signing Davis to a 150 mil contract and resigning trumbo with Mancini just sitting there waiting shows a total lack of front office comprehension.

Add in the pitching woes, the inability to draft or develop talent, the gallardo and Jiminez signings costing us draft picks, well, I've seen just about enough to know where this train is headed and it sure isn't "the promised land".

What's even worse with the Mancini thing is we didn't even play him in the OF in ST.  That was just ridiculous.

What are you talking about?    Mancini played plenty of games in the OF this spring.    I attended two of them in person.

Yeah there is no leadership.

We are constantly forced to react and are NEVER proactive. It shows and it's finally caught up to us.

Sarah Gelles if Dan doesn't get the boot.

I read this to say that Gelles would have a good chance if there's change made after the 2018 season (or later), but not now. Is that what you mean?

I know a little bit about her, and from the little I know I think she'd be a good choice. But I have no idea what kind of reputation/respect she has in the front office or with ownership. I also don't know of any specific input she's had that's had either a positive effect in building the team or a negative effect in creating the current mess.

    • ???. Cowser took more swings against LF than any other LH hitter on the team ( not named  Henderson). He was one of the guys they did not platoon.
    • I think Kevin Seiyltzer was the fall guy for a team that thought they were a championship team.  This guy has overseen more a decade of hitting in Atlanta, has been through developing and helping young batters succeed when the league adjusts.  Most importantly, he has a ring!
    • Glad one poseur AL team is out.  I hope CLE wins and knocks the other one out tomorrow.
    • I honestly think there is very little difference in most the teams that made the playoffs.  The most wins was 98 wins and there was 12 teams with 86 wins or more.  It also seems that many of the teams are on the same page with scouting and analytics now hitting wise.  Years back you had moneyball which the A’s used before anyone else.  Then the Astros and few teams started with analytics and seemed to be ahead of the rest of the league but they have caught up now imo.  Now the move seems to be on launch angle and hitting homers by getting the ball in the air but that seems to be across the league.  Obviously some teams have more money and more talented players but the strategy seems about the same.  The main differences I see is in pitching in the playoffs which is bullpen games and using openers rather then a starter to go 7 innings and carry your team to win now a slight sign of trouble they are taking them out.  With all these short inning guys and pitching them in certain pockets we are seeing very little offense and the hitting with runners in scoring position has been awful.  It all comes down to RISP at bats and getting 1 or 2 big base hits in those situations.  We just haven’t been able to get those hits so far in short series.
    • And we've seen similar with Kjerstad. Kjerstad might be the best pure hitting prospect in the Orioles system of recent years besides Gunnar. I want to see him playing everyday next year is possible none of this sitting him versus LHP more often than not. These prospects need to get their reps and stop treating them like John Lowenstein and Benny Ayala.
    • I don’t see Elias trading off prospects anymore at least top guys.  We have moved a few guys in last year and I expect they try to build that back up.  They should have money to use if they want to add talent.
    • Blah, well Rob Manfred has to be happy along with Fox network. A Yankees-Mets World Series match up is still on the table and the Dodgers as well if they win tomorrow. I knew the Royals would get jettisoned by the Yankees without too much of a fight.
