Austin Hays

I don't see him coming up this year. Could he help them with defense and late at bats? Possibly. He could continue his tear, or he could pull a David Washington. But, even if he comes up and goes on a rampage, his presence alone won't win the World Series.

Now, next season with several other pieces and hopefully a better rotation...

That's quite an honor.  Here's a BA podcast about the candidates -- discusses Hays at the 9:35 mark.   http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/milb-player-of-the-year-podcast/#oe4XLGd5k37QJxbL.97

Summary: very aggressive approach but hits everything hard and doesn't strike out much, akin to Vlad Guerrero.    Can play a respectable CF but is probably a RF when a little older and has plenty of arm for it.

The winner will be announced Friday morning.     Toronto has two of the five, Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette.

They also commented that the O's farm system is the strongest it's been in some time.

Vlad Jr is an absolute monster of a prospect.  He'll probably be in the majors as a teenager.

Let me guess the two others... Acuna and Tatis Jr.?

I think it will take a significant injury to derail him.

Agreed, if anyone wants an example of grade 70+ bat speed, look him up.  Also a good example of a guy without an athletic build, who is "athletic in the box" aka has an athletic swing.

Guess they figure he's better than Rickard, they have a lot of chaff already on the 40-man roster so using an unnecessary one is not a big deal,  and they think he's going to be the right fielder next year. Heck, they might think he's the right fielder right now and they may not be wrong.
