Is the RF platoon now Rasmus/Valencia?

Hopefully Valencia's primary role will be taking ABs from Chris Davis against left-handed pitching.

Doubt anyone on here would dispute that Davis has aged horribly, but seems like a lot of his 2017 struggles (particularly the K's) were confidence related. Cutting back on the AB against LH, where he has always struggled, can only be helpful to both Chris and the team.

Chris Davis batting splits:

2013
vsRHP - .316/.415/.728/1.142
vsLHP - .235/.289/.475/.763

2014
vsRHP - .199/.318/.399/.716
vsLHP - .188/.261/.416/.677

2015
vsRHP - .258/.375/.608/.984
vsLHP - .268/.330/.468/.799

2016
vsRHP - .223/.341/.487/.828
vsLHP - .216/.313/.398/.711

2017
vsRHP - .218/.317/.468/.785
vsLHP - .208/.293/.326/.619

Wonder if it would be smart to flip Davis and Trumbo position wise?

Anybody notice that Hays has been hitting well of late?    He had a double today to raise his overall average to .250 (9 for 36).    He started off 2 for 17, has gone 7 for 19 starting on March 13.    I don’t expect him to make the team, but I’m glad to see him rounding into form.

This would be the smart thing to do. That doesn't mean they'll do it though...

Wildcard pocked him to make the team, that surprised me. I’d prefer both Sisco/Hays play every day at Norfolk for now. But lots of moving pieces here...

I did notice that. I think someone also posted that he made a nice defensive play or two. Very good news that he is healthy whether or not he makes the club.

It’s very doubtful that Hays makes the team.

On the surface it makes sense for Santander to be the RF against lefties.  But if they don't carry a bench MI, I think you'll see Valencia in right when Davis starts at first.

If Valencia is the DH and an infielder gets ejected or hurt, you kill the DH.  It's minor, I know, but Buck usually plays to those contingencies.

So a 23,000,000/yr platoon 1B, only about 21,500,000 over market value
