Cody Carroll's stuff has been described as electric. 6'5" set up man. 3-0 at AAA Scranton with a 2.38 ERA in 41 innings with 55 strikeouts 0 HR's and .184 BA against him. They say he could be on the mlb roster now so he may join the team now instead of going to Norfolk.  He is the key player it seems in the deal although Dillon Tate was the 4th pick in the first round by the Rangers in the 2015 draft and Josh Rogers the left hander are both starters with potential.

Yep, he’s the strongest piece (most certain) despite the prospect rankings imo. Very excited for Carroll.

The reason why he isn't rated higher is his control / walk rate.  Let's not anoint him yet.

I do think baseball is moving towards more innings by dominant relievers in short stints.  I think the best clubs are structuring their staffs that way, and we see that to further extremes come playoff time.  

I do not think prospect rankings really respect this role yet - relief only profiles just don't get ranked.  Hopefully Pop and Carroll generate more real life value for us than their rankings suggest.
